I wish I knew, on mine it has somewhat of the original gold color left.

At one time ('90s), it was:
- Blue for most cars
- Gold for most trucks/SUVs and the Caprice
- Red for high performance models

The '94-6 SS didn't get the red bowtie because it basically has the same drivetrain as the regular LT1 Caprice.

The gold bowtie for the Caprice is interesting in retrospect since they stole the Arlington plant to build more trucks/SUVs.

00-03 Impala gets Blue bowties, 04-05 Impala gets Gold bowties. Any variation is a careless restoration after an accident, or vinyl overlays, available from a few different sources online.

Trim designation doesn't have any effect on bowtie color.

wonder why they changed it so the newer ones get gold

Not sure, but on silver or black Impalas, the Blue looks 100 times better.

I would have left the gold bowties where they belong - on the trucks.

A black bowtie goes good also... but was never stock on any Chevy, that I can remember.
