On average, how much does it cost to fill up your 2001 Chevy Impala? My gas gauge doesn't work and I was curious. I put about $30 in it every 200 miles and that tops it off, but I don't know how much gas I had beforehand.
I just put in 10 gallons at 3.19 and it cost me $31.19. On my 2000 LS I get around 350 miles to a tank, with most of my miles coming in the city. $30 every 200 miles sounds about right with the gas prices these days.
Just subtract how much gas you put in from 17. The 01 has a 17 gallon tank.
I have had two cars with broken fuel gauge and also drove 200 then refilled. That is a good number to use.
Your car holds 17 gallons of gas.
Times the number of gallons of the tank by the miles per gallon you are getting and that will give you a better idea of how far you can go. I would give about 50 to 75 miles as a fuel reserve.
For you to get the miles per gallon just fill it up and write down the miliage then the next fillup write down the miliage. Subtract the beginning number from the last and divide by the gallons added to the tank. The result will be the miles per gallon that your car is getting. I would do this 4 or 5 times to get a average. You will get better miles per gallon on highway than in town driving.
Example: Start miliage is 66097
Next fillup miliage is 66297 with 7.596 gallons of gas purchased. Subtract the start miliage from the ending 66297 - 66097 = 200 miles divided by 7.596 = 26.32 miles per gallon. I would round that the nearest number so lets use 26 miles per gallon. Now 26 miles per gallon times the gallons of the tank equal a total number of 442 miles the car could go before it runs out of gas. In this case I would go 350 miles than refuel.
