Probably sounds better and lost power. Warm air is less dense so less fuel mixes in the intake charge. The 3.5, 3.9 and the 5.3SS use the same airbox and filter. The stock air system provides colder air and is capable of feeding a 5.3 V8 with 303 hp.

I removed the sound mufflers on the airbox and intake hose on my 2018 and I’m surprised how much louder it is under full throttle.

I just wrapped my manifolds which strangely reduced the temputure by a lot. It seems to stay cool under the hood now. I am running the piping and filter inside the bumper so it’ll be more air flow.
