Hey guys new to the group looking forward to the fun. I just purchased my first impala 2 weeks ago and I'm getting to fixing its issues the main one I can't find anything on is that it's running a C0300 Code, and for the life of me I can't find anything that would be causing it please help!!!
Ps I only have a cheap performance tool code reader, so it's not telling me exactly what's going on
Thanks in advance

C0300 is for the rear propshaft speed sensor, which is located on the transfer case for rear wheel drive vehicles. Unless you have a modified Impala with a rear wheel drive setup, something isn't right. What method did you use to scan the code and did you visually confirm it was C0300?

Unless there's something else going on, suspect a faulty speed sensor. Are you getting any other warning lights on the dash? ABS or anything like that?

C0300 is a generic CHASSIS code. It's not a code that has to do with smog or such. Different manufacturers use it slightly different from others. Most scanners don't cover them.

Examples.

On 4x4 GM's it can mean the propeller shaft's engagement timing. Or not. But that's not chassis.

On Impalas it can mean the gas cap is loose, or spark plugs fouled, both of which also have P (Powertrain) codes. But it's not chassis.

This code is poorly documented. It's really important to observe clearly and to make a plan of attack. Forget the code. Even delete the code and see what happens. In the end it's going to be like the old days. By hand.

Another tactic is to suspect maybe a software keying error where P0300 was intended but C0300 was entered. Bug report would not catch it.
