Does anyone know how many key cycles it takes before the check engine light goes off? My light came on Monday morning and has not gone out yet. I got gas Monday afternoon, thinking it could have been my gas cap, but it is still on. I called the dealership and they told me to give it a few more days. Is there anything else that I can try that may turn off the light?

Thanks!

Unhooking the battery is a waste of effort and doesn't work, sometime after 1995 - 96, when OBD II scanners became the diagnostic tool, following OBD I. Only the scanner turns off the light, for significant or specific problems and trouble codes, other than gas cap. A new cap with proper seal will solve the problem, after which the light (computer) is programmed to go off in use - right, after so many key cycles, but in about 3 days of driving. You have to fix the problem first.
