My point is the TC clutch locks up at cruising speed to improve gas mileage. Basically both halves spin at the same rate, when the clutch engages, preventing lost kinetic energy through the transmission fluid in the TC.

They don't need a light to diagnose problems. A light is something to tell the end user to have it checked for issues. Any decent mechanic can diagnose an issue without a little light holding their hand along the way.

I have little experience with torque converters but the little searching I did says the code will come on if the TCC doesn't engage in D4 or if it doesn't disengage when it should (out of D4). Maybe yours isn't disengaging. Either way, it isn't something easily diagnosed and I would recommend the dealer.

A lot of people just avoid general maintainance on their vehicles. It's a real shame because fixing issues as they pop up saves so much time in the long run. Once 10 problems are present it's so overwhelming for many people.

Once you get everything sorted out and keep the car I believe your general maintainance will slow down considerably.
