Hey guys,

New to the forum.

I have a 2015 impala limited which I have learned is a little bit of a pain to find parts for due to the older body style, yet being a 2015.

Was just wondering if anyone knew of where to find some or if the older year models will work?

A 2015 limited should have the same suspension, major body panels, interior and chassis as any other 8th gen(2006 - 2016 limited). The main difference is that in 2012 GM put an entirely new drivetrain with the lfx and 6spd. So drivetrain parts for your impala has to be from a 2012+ whereas almost everything else can come from any 2006+ impala. Correct me if I am wrong.

I think 20impala12 is correct. This past weekend I put model year 2008 Buick LaCrosse Super specification OE Bilstein struts in all four corners of my 2014 Impala Limited Ltz, even though the parts supplier stated these struts were not correct for my car. I suppose he was technically right, meaning the 2014 Limiteds didn’t come with factory Bilsteins. That being said, with the exception of one minor modification, they fit like a glove and I love the handling/ride, especially on the highway. I could have also used the same model year Grand Prix GXP Bilstein struts (different part numbers, but externally almost identical struts to my OE parts). If you can afford the price, the Bilsteins are, in my opinion, WAY BETTER than any other replacement struts I could have bought. But they are pricey.

What my long-winded example means is, with a few exceptions, most suspension (and a lot of other mechanical parts) are interchangeable between the 8th generation 2006-2016 GM W-body cars (e.g., Impala, Grand Prix, Buick LaCrosse, and Monte Carlo - not sure what year they stopped making Monte Carlos). However, it pays to do your homework. In my strut example above, I went to a comprehensive parts store and asked the parts counter guy to pull sample struts for different model years so I could visually compare them side by side.

Someplace I recall someone mentioning Eibach makes (made?) lowering springs for the 8th gen W-bodies. I can’t say for certain, but I’m pretty sure there may be more than one manufacturer of lowering springs. I’ll let the more knowledgeable forum members who have spring replacement experience chime-in.

The only thing different about the newer limited models is the drivetrain like stated. You can use any suspension part available for the 06+ models. If you want springs most will recommend Canuck Motorsports 97-03 Grand Prix springs. Yes they fit on the impala. All the W-Body’s are pretty much the same. I personally have used these, although shorty because the car was totaled. Sold them to @1impalavision1 last year. Currently I have BC Racing coilovers which a quit a leap in price but offer adjustability.

love the look of the coilovers..thanks for all the info! I havent done much to my impala yet, have been an import guy thus far. But so far I love it. I'll be getting the springs first most likely and possibly coils in the future. Thanks!

Yeah this is a friendly forum. We don’t have issues with people being disrespectful. Everyone tries to help each other. It’s kind of like a family lol. But as far as springs get the Canuck Motorsports 97-03 Grand Prix set. I think it cost me $220ish shipped when I purchased them a few years back. They will give you the best results for your money. The impala ones give the rear a sagging look.

Yeah this is a friendly forum. We don’t have issues with people being disrespectful. Everyone tries to help each other. It’s kind of like a family lol. Yeah I noticed that its nice for a change. The import scene is alot of kids running their mouths, this suits me better ;) Just curious with the grand prix springs are they plug and play? Or did they take some work to make work?

No modifications are needed. They are all built on the same frame. Nearly all parts are interchangeable. So just put the springs on your struts and reinstall them. It’ll take maybe a 1 1/2 hours possibly 2 depending on if you have help. The me front is really easy to remove/reinstall. The rear is a bit more annoying because you need to climb into the trunk to remove the upper bolts for the strut. But overall it isn’t bad at all. I suggest having help though. Someone to hold the rear strut in place so you can thread the bolts on.

1. Suspension work carries inherent risks; you are working with springs having MANY THOUSANDS OF POUNDS OF TENSION which can KILL, MAIM, and/or cause lots of property damage if done incorrectly as well as the risk of a raised car falling onto you if not properly supported.

2. Gas charged struts are under high pressure and modifying such can be risky if you do not know what you are doing.

If you haven't done this kind of work before, do not have all the right tools, and are not 100% certain you know what you are doing, take it to a shop.

I purchased genuine Bilstein struts from Amazon (at the time, they were way less expensive due to a promotion). I ordered using the part numbers in RockAuto for a 2008 Buick Lacrosse with the 5.3 liter engine and FE4 suspension for my 2014 Limited LTZ. I also considered using the part numbers for the same year Grand Prix GXP, but those were more expensive (not sure exactly why).

The one modification I did was to cut back the sway bar end link attaching ears from the front struts; I used a sawzall (less heat generation). My LTZ does not utilize such (e.g., the old strut didn't have the end link mounts) and I felt the ears came a little too close to the brake hose hard to soft line transition/mounting.
