Hey guys, We are buying a 2018 Impala LT 3.6 with 22K from a Chevy dealer. Is there any issues I should know about with this 9th generation ?? We have a 09, and a 15 limited now, so I know the 8th generation well but unsure about the 9th. I have heard about water in truck issue on some early 9th models, Has that been resolved in the later models ? I see there is also a bulletin out for the brake system, what is that about ? Anything else to know about known issues, please let me know.

Thanks !

I've had no issues with the brake system, however the flange on the catalytic converter is prone to cracking, causing an exhaust leak. So may have to weld it up eventually.

There was a service bulletin put out in May 2014 for the water in the trunk issue caused by taillight gaskets with new gasket numbers 23211647 left and 23211648 right. You would think any car built after that wouldn't have the issue. That assumption would be wrong, I have seen people with up to 2018 Impalas with this same issue.

I have seen some complain of the air intake hose splitting and letting in unfiltered air also.

The sunroof or moonroof has some complaints as well. The sunshade on the sunroof of my 15 Impala has got caught up in the mechanism and ripped and is sagging. I have seen more than a few complaints of this.

I haven't had any brake issues on my 2015.

I really need to check our intake hose, although the car seems to run fine I am betting it looks the same.

The single biggest and most costly issue is AC evaporator core leaks. See this thread:

Ask the dealer to check if the car you are intending to buy is covered by the extended warranty. If not, you may want to reconsider the purchase.

Replacement on your dime will cost you big $$ and involves extensive disassembly and removal of the steering column, console and the entire dashboard. Reports here of repeated failures are even more troubling. I'm a Chevy fan, but this issue, and GM's thus far refusal to address the issue would cause me to walk away without the extended warranty.

I have a 17. Problems are, tranny shifts to fast into 2nd gear, headlights have more water inside than outside, radio shuts off when you blow the horn, a.c. doesn't blow that cold
Weird,

I have a 2018 lt v6 and I've never had tranny problems. I bought it in 2018 @ 11k miles and I now have 95k miles. It shifts smooth for me. I have the V6 LT. I now have 95k miles and still no problem. I did have an A/C problem after a couple weeks of having it. It was blowing warm air instead of cold out of passenger side. Had the actuator replaced under warranty. Other than that, nothing.
