Hey guys, new to the site hoping to find some quick help, i just bought a aftermarket double din head unit for my 06 impala LT (no bose/steering wheel controls) and im wondering do i really need an adapter? Im not particularly worried about the "warning chimes" as all the information is displayed below the gauge cluster. Im wondering if im able to just cut the factory adapter off and wire all connections to the ones on the new headunit. I know it will do away with the warning chimes but will it effect anything else? Thanks for any help in advance, much appreciated!

Hey I'm a new owner of the 2010 impala and I'm in the same boat as you. Should I buy the adapter or cut the wires.

Well I've looked around and found the harness as cheap as $5 on eBay.

As much as I wanna cut the wires my self I will get the harness and do it the right way. All I care about is having my system back.

If you need the link I will send to you if you'd like

Sorry for the late reply, haven't been on here much since the post. I opted for the harness. 75$ at walmart! Wasn't too happy about it lol but it was the right way i assume. Turn signals sound weird now however. Makes me want to cut the wires to the little speaker haha

on a 2010 the sound for the chimes comes from the speakers. there's an extra box that plugs in to create that sound. i got mine from walmart i believe, ( i think back then it was about 70 bucks) and it gave back all dingers and turn indicators sounds. before i sold my car the install parts were seven years old and holding strong.

i believe this was the part i went with (or something similar) https://www.walmart.com/ip/SCOSCHE-GM3000SW-Select-2004-Up-GM-LAN-Stereo-Replacement-with-Chime/26978037. i will note there was a sound level switch, i chose the louder one and it was very clearly loud enough lol.

lol there were a lot of times i was annoyed by how loud it was but i'd rather hear it than not. especially if i left the keys in the ignition and got out.
