Fuel pumps are common on GMs.
It's likely worn out, but I'm not going to bet on it.

The fuel pumps generally give you an indication of low topend power, then poor highway performance, and will continue to decline in performance.
Eventually only idling. Or start and die, start and die, start and die.....

You could test the fuel pressure from the pump. Anything under 8psi is below minimum.
13 psi is normal.

Assuming you're not out of gas, you probably have one of these two problems: A clog in the fuel lines or clogged filter, or believe it or not, a bad Distributor Cap! You may not be able to tell if the cap is no good by looking at it. I had a car die on me once on the freeway. I called a Mobile Mechanic and had to pay him $130.00 for a new Distributor Cap! I was furious because I had just replaced the cap with a new one a few weeks earlier. Sometimes new ignition parts are defective!
