108000 miles uses no oil nice car. I noticed it knocks on startup for a second or two only. Happens when its been sitting overnight and sometimes when the engine is warm and I park it for a few minutes then restart. It only does it for a second or two. Could this be the hydraulic roller lifters making noise if they bleed down or is it more likely due to excessive crankshaft bearing clearances requiring more time for oil pressure to build up? I have a 95 pickup with TBi 5.7 that has way more miles and wear on it and it does not tick on start but it also has regular hydraulic lifters. Anyone know if the hydraulic rollers make more noise? Just a shot in the dark. Such a nice car otherwise, what a bummer.

On ticks and taps.

The beautiful thing about roller lifters is that they don't need to pump up like hydraulic lifters. They just need to be lubed. My guess would be a main bearing knock.
