Anyone know the exact amount. The manual is vague for "checking" the level on the dipstick and confusing. Wait 2 hours after the car is hot? This is just silliness.

After about 1000 miles of putting the suggested amount in the capacity chart, looks like Im still a half quart low.

Geeez, talk about a lame crowd..... Maybe I'll keep questions about window tint and fuzzy dice that hang off the mirror. Later!!

2018 V6.



See the note it is APPROXIMATE? The manual says to check it when you ran the car after two hours or something lengthy worded.



The dipstick has cross hatch, then above it smooth, then cross hatch again above that.



Manual says the dipstick diagram is for the 4cyl engine but 6cyl is similar(wtf.)


The book calls for 6qts but its not to the full mark(wherever that may be, I cant figure it out from reading this literature.)



The dipstick diagram mentioned above only shows when to add oil, when the level is below the cross hatch at the very bottom.



I put in 6qts, 1000 miles later, its in the middle of the smooth section, not to the full mark at the top of the cross hatches on the very top.


Does anyone know why the traditional dipstick had to be altered, I don't understand all this overdoing shit.

I looked at mine yesterday, and I agree with you, it's a little vague. I changed oil about 200 miles ago, 6qts of oil, & a filter. The car has been sitting for days, and the oil level is just below the top cross hatch section in the smooth area. I changed the oil @ 5K miles, and drained 5 qts out. So it used 1 quart. I'll check it the next time @ 5K miles, before I drain it. Then I'll know where on the dipstick the add 1 quart mark is.

There is no "full mark", again, read your manual.

I honestly can't figure out if you have never changed the oil in a car before or if you are making a mountain out of a molehill. In the simplest of terms; if you are within the crosshatched area you have the proper oil level. Below that, add oil.

Right, it used to be ONE cross hatch, now for some reason there is two diff cross hatches sections. Idiot shit.



This is for people who change oil on the body style/engine Im refering to like the guy above who is agreeing his car used oil as well and the dipstick fuckstick, which is good to know Im not just seeing stuff.



In my old age, been working on cars for 25yrs, a Tool and Die Maker by trade, a silly ass oil change is something I do before my first coffee cup is empty and I pitch my first cigarette of the day in the drain pan.

Yes, I hear you "in my old age". I did my 1st oil change at the age of 13, on my Dad's 57 Chevy. That was 52 good years ago. I've changed so much oil, I feel like it would fill up a pretty good sized oil tanker truck like they use to haul away used oil.

LOL! Even with that "impressive" resume, you find it challenging to read and comprehend a simple owner's manual. I bet you would struggle to pour water from a boot even with the instructions on the heel.

I don't know the answer to your question about what amount of oil will get you to the very top of the dipstick. My advice would be this...put in 6 quarts as recommended, drive your regular interval between oil changes and check the dipstick a few times during that. As long as the oil is never below the bottom cross-hatch, I wouldn't worry about it at all. I guarantee any dealer or oil change place will throw 6 quarts in it and be done. No need to get it right to the top. As to why they made the dipstick like that, that's a great question. Not sure why they had to change a design that has been around and universally understood for many years. Probably the same reason they do things like removing tranny dipsticks...just want it harder to work on for the average guy.

I also have a V6, same exact dipstick as RobHazmat.. not sure why this is so difficult for you.
