I purchased a 2015 Impala Limited 2 weeks ago. The car has 20,000 miles.

I have never owned a Chevy, but I liked this car and decided to purchase it.

I noticed last week that when the car reaches 70-80 MPH on the freeway that there is a slight vibration at the floor boards/gas pedal and seat. Upon braking, there is no noticeable shake or vibration in the steering wheel. I took the car in to the dealer and had them balance the wheels and inspect/test drive to see problem. They claimed that it drove like a dream and did not notice any issue whatsoever. I can clearly tell the difference between the smooth ride at 60 MPH and when the vibration comes on at around 70-80 MPH.

Any thoughts on what might be causing this?

I hate suspension issues it can be so many things. I would say get a 4 wheel alignment. Or it could be those tires.

I had a Chevy lumia that did the same thing. Turns out it was the tires, when I went 70+ mph it would hum like big mud tires and vibrate. A 4 wheel alignment would be a good idea too just to rule out any sort of alignment issue. Also make sure the lug nuts are torqued equally, if they are drastically different torques you could experience the same issues. On a 2013 the torque for aluminum wheels is 93 lb ft and 103 lb ft for steel, I'm not sure about your '15 but I wouldn't think it would be much different.

Thanks for your insight. I'm taking it back to the dealer later this week. Hopefully they will duplicate the problem when test driving this time around.

So, I've taken the car in to the dealer 4 times. The first 2 times I took it to the dealership where I purchased the car. They claim to have felt nothing while test driving. This was the extent of my 2 trips to the dealer, getting a rental car and awaiting a phone call. "My tech drove your car and he said it drives fine, no vibrating at all". They test drove it around the block, apparently didn't feel anything and that was it. I get it the car, hit the freeway and bam...vibrating the same as before.

The third trip was to another Chevy dealer. They had a tech test drive the car and he felt the vibrating at gas pedal/floor board at highway speeds of 70-80 mph. The diagnosis they provided was excessive road force at a rear tire. They adjusted to normal specs. I take the car out for a drive and the vibration was still there!

Took the car back to the dealer I purchased the vehicle from for a 3rd time. They kept the car for a week. I didn't receive a call from the dealer once while they had my car. I called them after having my car for 6 days. Granted, I was given a loaner for the week but I was still never contacted with updates or news on my car. They claim to have found the vibration and shaking immediately once it was taken on the freeway. Odd, since the first 2 times they had the car, they found zero vibration and I was left with no answers. The diagnosis is unbalanced tires, .75 ounce right wheel and .5 ounce left wheel. Excessive road force was found in a tire. This was all adjusted to normal specs. They tell me the vibration is gone 90% but there is still a slight vibration at highway speeds, due to "subpar Good Year tires". Keep in mind the tires have 24,000 miles and have 8/12 tread on all. They explained no uneven wear was spotted and the tires are just "not very good" and "I should buy Michelin". Lastly, they explained to me with 100% assurance that if I replaced all tires that the vibrating will stop, guaranteed. They were not pressuring me to buy tires whatsoever, but that was their "fix".

I hop on the freeway after getting my car back, speed up to around 70 mph and...IT STILL VIBRATES! I am left unsure of my next step. The car was purchased in February with 19,000 miles. Any thoughts to what my next step may be to finding the issue(s)?

Get new tires. Seriously.

The goodyears are junk. My dad's car is only a year old than yours with 10k more miles, and his factory tires are nearly bald and are vibrating like crazy. It sucks to toss out a set of tires when there is still plenty of tread, but they are literally the worst tires I've ever driven on.

Talked to the GM last week and he agreed to put 2 new tires on the front of the car.

I pick up my car on Saturday and the 2 new tires are on the rear of the car. Still feeling a slight vibration on the highway. Called and left a voicemail with the service department about the new tires being put on the rear instead of the front.

There are tire shops that can "true" a tire by shaving the high sides if that's the problem. Also if a aluminum wheel is installed wrong by not tourqeing correctly that can lead to warped rotors and possible wheel damage.

After my back 2 tires were replaced by the dealership, I still noticed the vibration. I was told by the dealership general manager that if the tire replacement didn't' fix the vibration that they would send in a GM engineer to diagnosis the problem. The vibration was still present in my car. I called the dealership general manager and he told me that there was nothing they could do for me even though he told me an engineer from GM would be testing my car to diagnosis the problem. I opened a case with GM a few days later. After about 3 weeks, GM called me and said that the dealership did all they could do but i should bring it back so they could look at the car and that the dealer "would be more than happy to look at it again".

I took the car to the dealer late last week. So, my car has been to the dealership 6 times now for the vibration issue. They called me on Friday and said the tech could feel the vibration at highway speeds of 70-80 MPH. I thought this was a good sign, since the tech duplicated the vibration on the freeway. Well, I got a call yesterday and the service rep told me that they used a pico scope (?) to test vibration. They found vibration at the front end of the vehicle. He said that the pico scope number from the vibration was "NORMAL" and "WELL WITHIN SPECIFICATIONS". I'm at a loss for words. They felt vibration on the freeway and called me to tell me they were working to fix them on Friday. Now I am told that it is NORMAL. Unbelievable! The service tech also told me that "every car vibrates".

I am trying to call GM back to talk to my case rep, but I'm having no luck. The dealer said the pico scope tests were sent to GM.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? Is there hope? UGH.

Definitely not normal. To be completely honest, I would probably just give in and get new tires on the front as well. As well as an alignment and road force balancing on all 4 wheels. This would rule out anything tire/wheel related (the road force balancing would detect a bent wheel as well).

Yes, it sucks to have to do that at your expense on such a new car - BUT, it will either completely fix the issue or at least completely rule out a wheel or tire problem. Personally, I tend to think that it's a wheel/tire problem.

Another possible "solution" - swap the front and rear wheels. I had an annoying vibration very similar to yours - only occurred on the highway at certain speeds - and only sometimes at those speeds. I had all wheels balanced and it still happened. I rotated the tires and the went away completely an has never came back - even after multiple rotations. Can't explain it, but...

At some point, you have to give up trying to get Chevy to do the right thing and take matters into your own hands. Again, it shouldn't be that way, but it is what it is.

I'd probably try swapping the front/rear tires first and see what happens and then go from there....

What tires did they replace the crappy Goodyears with (and they *are* crappy tires) - I had mine replaced even though they had lots of tread left, but that was after one of them developed a big bubble on the inside, which is apparently a somewhat common issue with them. I just said "screw it" and replaced it with quality tires with a 75k mile warranty.

Do you have Goodyear Eagles? If so I'm pretty certain that's the issue multiple people have had vibration issues with them and goodyears in general if you look at their reviews on Tirerack...I have them too but no vibration. Try to get the dealer to get the other two new tires it's a safety hazard I've had a highway blowout that started with a vibration from a sudden bulge in the tire Id assume.

^^Exactly - those Goodyear tires really are a safety hazzard! Like I said, one of mine developed a bubble on the inside at relatively low milage - and had I not been OCD'ish about vibrations (it was pretty minor), it would have eventually blown out on me. ANd when a front tire blows at 75mph, all sorts of bad things can happen!!

I can't believe that Goodyear allows such crappy tires to bear their name. REally put me off in terms of Goodyear tires!

Hello:

I know I am new to this forum but everybody is dancing around what TIRE RATING those tires have, honestly.

I have worked with Oversized Loads as a Pilot (Escort) Car (Vehicle). First, since I live in New England in Connecticut, I swear by Town Fair Tire they have always treated me right, but I still go by a Tire Rating Chart when purchasing tires for all sizes, even on-line.

This will prevent that annoying tire shimmy, even when all of the tires on your vehicle are balanced, and car has had a 4-way thrust allignment done.

Trust me when I say that I retired my 1998 Buick Century LTD with a cracked engine block and over 300,000+ miles on my car and each tire that I put on my vehicle had no less than a "T" rating on my car. That means that when I am going 80mph plus, my tires were rated for a maximum speed of 125mph. That means that at 85~100mph I still had another 25mph to play with and I never had that issue again with my car.

Check out what mph rating your tires you have on your car. Do not allow the tire place to dictate that mph maximum number for you, honestly, only you know how you drive and having a car that you do not have to hesitate in quick thinking manuvers and defensive driving is a must for today's idiots on the road. Hello:

I made a mistake. I said a "T" rating with a 125mph max speed.

The correction is a "U" rating with a 124mph max speed. Is what I had. I apologize for getting those mixed up.
