The headlights in my 2012 Impala keep burning out (low beams only) after about a year, sometimes less. I had my mechanic replace one of the sockets as he was sure that was the issue, and then the other light burned out a few weeks later.

Could it be possible that I have 2 bad sockets? Or maybe the Sylvania ZXEs aren't great in the Impala?

Does anyone have suggestions for the brightest most powerful lights (high and low beam) to use in the 2012 (fleet edition, not that it matters).

The Sylvania ZXE's, which is what I run, have a reputation for burning out really quickly around a year or so. I've been lucky, mine have been installed for about a year and a half (I think?) now, and the set before lasted about two years. I believe the reason might have to be with the daytime running lights on our Impalas. Running the low beams 24/7 (albeit at a lower power) isn't doing any favors for the lifespan of the bulb.

Personally I like the ZXE's, they're nice and bright and not as warm or "yellow" as other bulbs. Initially I tried the Philips Diamond Vision, and while those were nice and white, they weren't bright enough for me. I suppose it's something I could get used to, but I liked the brightness of the ZXE's, so I went back to those. To me, I'm okay with changing my bulbs every year and a half or two years.

So while I don't *think* there's something actually wrong with your Impala, the ZXE's do have a reputation for burning out quick.

i personally had issues with the high end sylvania's in the 2010 impala. i even put a cover over the light sensors to prevent daytime running lights from being an issue and they still burned out around the 6 month mark. i did switch to the phillips top of the line bulbs, but wound up buying a set of spyder ccfl halo headlights before they failed after about 4 months of use.

in my opinion, don't waste the money on the high end sylvanias for these cars as they just fail at about the 6 month mark. there have been many threads speaking on this matter and they all had issue with the sylvania bulbs.

So it sounds like both of you above prefer the Phillips over Sylvanias. Same for the high beams? I always found it odd that the Sylvanias didn't have a high-beam option.

I use my high beams so little i never changed them. I didn’t have more than 4 months on the low beams but had high hopes for them.

You like the Spyders? I'm looking at a similar set with the LED bars on eBay. Steep initial price but I'm guessing they last for a while (and look dope).

Id buy spyders again. The other brands have issues with cracking lenses or leaking water. Spyder has been hands down the favorites on these forums. I would buy them again. Installation is actually pretty reasonable. You just spend some time aiming the lights. Pay more now, and get a quality product. Plus you can get them from amazon with a square trade warranty for an addition $30 4 year plan.

The higher end bulbs burn out quicker no matter what they are installed in. It's in the design of the bulb, it burns brighter at the same wattage reducing the lifetime of the bulb. I've been installing the xtravision bulbs, they are brighter over the basic ones but don't sacrifice so much in life compared to basic ones. another thing to check if you really want to be sure things are okay is to check the voltage AT THE SOCKET with the bulbs on and car running. it shouldn't be too far lower than what you see at the battery, it shouldn't be higher than 14.5 either. ford has or had a problem with the wiring being too small, dropping from 14v to 11.5 or 12 v at the bulb, reducing brightness but making the bulbs last forever.

Thanks guys, I'll be looking into the Spyders.
I also agree that the Spyders are by far the best aftermarket headlights for these cars (assuming you like halos). I got the CCFL versions on Ebay for $240 shipped and then got $40 back from the vendor for giving them pictures of my car with them installed. The vendor is VIPMotoz - and I'd *highly* recommend them. Not only are they the cheapest, but they also have a "love it or return it" program when you can return them for any reason - and they even pay return shipping.

I've had these headlights installed for about 3 years now and haven't had any issues - still using the bulbs that came with them as well. And the highbeams are awesome too. :)

Was just reading this thread and wondering this. My 06 Impala was supposed to have a daytime circuit for the running lights (low beams I'm assuming) that cut the power to these beams by 50% or so during the day and going to full power (brightness) at night. My thought is wouldn't this make the bulbs last longer? Or maybe this feature isn't in the 2007 onward? Just wondering.

daytime running lights on a 2010 LS are ran through the primary low beams. i believe as you said it cuts the power to the bulb so they can't shine as brightly. however in order to make the halogens that much brighter they must have to sacrifice the life expectancy of the bulbs. don't get me wrong, sylvania is a good product,but in this application it may not be the longest lasting.

Dunno, heard the sylvania silver star h11's were junk, that they would burn out in 5 months or so. Been running a set BOTH changed at the same time back in February in our 2012 and they are still both shining bright as new(knock on wood). This is a daily driver that has had a load of miles put on it with the drl ON a lot since they were changed.

Kind of wonder with some of the complaints with these bulbs as to how many are changing them as a set.
