*UPDATE* I had the harness pinned out that is supposed to carry the VSS signal from the Electronic Brake Control Module. GM did not include that wire in the harness. I'm assuming because they never set up the vehicle to have a navigation radio. I put some feelers out to some people I know to see if the vehicle speed signal would still come off of the EBCM if a wire was added to the harness in the correct pin location which could then be tied directly into the radio. Worst case scenario I've been told would be to run a wire from each wheel speed sensor, tie them together, and then tie that into the radio. I'm holding off on that for now, but we'll see what happens.

I'm curious - why do you need the VSS wire at all to begin with? I've connected two different OEM-look navigation systems to my 2012 Impala and they come with a GPS antenna which works just fine (have "High" accuracy at all times) - why is the VSS wire even needed?

Or am I mis-understanding the whole point of this thread?

I installed an actual OEM radio I bought from a salvage vehicle and had it flashed for my VIN. Apparently the turn by turn directions pull and operate from the vehicle speed signal. Everything on the radio works flawlessly with the exception of the audible turn by turn directions and the map engagement while following a route. The map knows exactly where it is, but if I enter a destination and veer off course it won't update itself. Again the is allegedly fixed by tying the radio into the vehicle speed signal which I've been able to find a place to tap into with my vehicle. At this point I'm almost wishing I went with an Advent or another OEM "fit" radio, but I wanted to do it with an actual GM unit.

Hmm, I just don't understand it... Any GPS system can determine the vehicle speed just by using GPS data that is obtained via the GPS antenna - I wonder why the OEM nav system needs the VSS as well... Go figure.

Anyone have any idea why the OEM nav system would require the VSS signal to begin with?

Apparently not, the OEM radio pulls that info from somewhere else in the vehicle. Trust me, I wish it was plug and play.

I bought a OEM GM Nav Radio and took it to get it programmed at my local dealer, and they said that it wouldn't let them unlock it, can you tell me what you said or did to get it unlocked?

Mine came unlocked and was programmed for my VIN when it arrived. I've never been able to successfully complete the install. I can see where I am on the map when I'm driving, but I've never been able to get the VSS signal running to the head unit and this have never been able to fully utilize the navigation system with the spoken turn by turn directions.

Great information. I just stumbled upon this thread trying to sort out an issue related to what you've done.

I've got a 2016 Impala Limited LTZ. I purchased a factory Navigation stereo that was originally in an 09 Suburban LTZ.

I did the swap and was greeted with the THEFTLOCK screen. That was a couple of days ago.

I've since learned that I have to have the radio reprogrammed with my VIN to make it work. My real concern is this, I have the Bose system currently. It has the factory amplifier and 8 speakers. If I reinstall the nav radio and take it to be reprogrammed, will I keep Onstar, Sirius XM and my chime?

I'm looking at the ADVENT. I would like to add the backup camera and adding steering controls to my base model 2011 Impala LS. I already upgraded the paper cone speakers to Rockford Fosgate triaxials. Sounds much clearer. Was fun cutting out the front speakers to re-use the "mounts". Had to do this on my G6. I just got the Impala this year as a deer took out my Pontiac.
