I am scheduling a transmission drain and fill soon but my mechanic recommends doing a transmission flush to change the fluid in the torque converter. Any thoughts on this? I am a bit hesitant on a flush because I know flushing a transmission can cause issues. Vehical has just over 100,000 Kms on it now.

I'd recommend a drain/fill with Dexron 6 atf ea. 30k mi. Easy diy project: With eng. cold, loosen/remove atf dipstick to vent. Place a 6qt.+ drain pan under the 11mm drain plug and remove. Replace plug and add 5-6qts. of new Dexron 6 atf. Done. I don't even jack/lift the car. I use a 3/8"dr. ratchet with 11mm socket to loosen the plug and a 1/4"dr. ratchet/socket to tighten. Easier than an oil change. No filter involved.

Read your vehicle owner’s manual - GM does not recommend a transmission flush.

Some dealers and others use a chemical cleaner with the “flush” which GM considers a contaminant.

The transmission filter is only serviceable on your model if the transmission is removed from the vehicle and opened. As such, a drain and refill with Dexron Six transmission fluid is the way to go.

I took my Impala into GM and had the transmission flushed which also comes with a warranty if the transmission is not modified. Thats a bit unfortunate because I was looking into using a tech 2 scanner to hopefully disable the adaptshift feature these transmissions have, this is where the car will downshift automatically going down a hill if you accelerate about 10kmph without touching the accelerator. i am not the biggest fan of this coming from an Aurora with the 4t65e that did not downshift on its own.
