I bought a pair of inexpensive leather seat covers for my 2012 Chevy Impala. It required the headrest removal to slip it over the seat. I searched Google and this forum on how to remove the headrest, but what I found didn't apply. Most advice was for older models. Some said they brutally removed their headrest. While others made a special tool to slip down the shaft of the headrest.

I discovered a small hole on the plastic ring base that sits flush on top of the seat. Using a pin type instrument (see photo), I inserted it while simultaneously pressing the headrest adjuster on the opposite plastic ring base. This will release the headrest.

Overall, these seat covers seem like a good quality (see photo). I will buy the matching back seat cover; however, there is an issue with the front seat cover. As it slips over both seats, it obstructs the side airbag (see photo). I cut a slit in the side and stitched the corners as best as possible to prevent further rips. I hope this helps someone.
