Hi everyone,

a couple weeks ago the passenger side air blend actuator started making the loud ticking noise. Got up in behind the glove box and felt which one was making the noise. It was the one to the right side of glove box. So i replaced it. A couple days ago, I heard it again. Wife said that it had started doing it again but forgot to tell me. Same one. If i go buy another one, can someone provide very specific steps to properly replace. I have read so many things on battery disconnect, recalibrating, etc. Many thanks!!

When you say right side of the glove box, do you mean the one on the center console? Anyway, when I replaced my passenger side blend door actuator, here's how I did it.

First, drop the glove box. Disconnect the cable to the blend door actuator, remove the two bolts. Actuator slides right out. Don't worry about calibrating it right now, the new actuator will only fit one way due to the "stem" so insert the new actuator. 99.9999% of the time the bolt holes on the new actuator will not line up to the actual holes... this is where I did my calibration. With the new actuator in there, turn it so the holes line up. Then replace the bolts, clip the cable back on, and put the glove box back. Move the temperature and air flow knobs a few times to make sure everything works correctly.

This is exactly how I did my passenger side blend door actuator. I didn't disconnect the battery or anything.

Hope this helps!

Ok I went and had the part replaced from auto store. It had lifetime warranty so it was replaced. I installed new actuator and then hooked up connector. I started car and did not touch any temp for 20 minutes. Then I started seeing what was going on. It is a chilly night in the 50s so outside air coming into the car should be colder than air that is being recirculated right? It is just the opposite. When it is set to recirc, the air is much colder. When set to allow air in, it is warmer. The AC itself is not turned on. So what the heck could I have done wrong for it to be the opposite or is there some sort of recalibration that must take place? My question would be should the blend door be open/up or down/closed when in the recirc mode. When I installed the new actuator, the blend door was down. Im stumped

The recirculation blend door actuator is a completely different one. That is behind the dash, and is a complete pain in the butt to get to. The one you replaced (next to the glove box) doesn't control recirculation at all, only passenger side temperature and mode.

This is just me spitballing here... while it's colder out, it may not necessarily be that colder air should come in vs. recirc. Think of the location of your cabin air filter, it pulls in air from around and over your engine. If your engine was running, your engine is nice and hot which heats up the ambient air, especially if you're not moving.

Hope this helps.
