I just bought a 2008 Impala last November and have not had a single issue till today. After travelling about 30 miles with the AC on and set to inside, I turned the car off and started hearing a thumping from the passenger side dash. I tried turning the car on and off a few times to see if it would go away, but it did not. I finally turned the AC to vent, then back to inside and shut the car off and it stopped. Later I went to the car to get something out and just opened the driver side door and the thumping started again. I was able to use the same technique to get it to stop. After driving home, I had the same issue after another 30 miles. This time the trick didn't work at first, but after a few tries I got the thumping to stop.

I think it might have something to do with the vent baffle, but I have seen a few posts about the BCM relay causing the thumping sound. Any insight would be grateful.

Thanks,

I made a video of the issue at hand. It seems it is either an issue with the motor/gears, or with something (BCM?) not registering the vent is closed. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I am having the same problem with my impala which is also a 2008. The only thing is I dont think I am still under warranty because my ride had 54K. How much does this repair cost?

yea this post was helpful....I have an 08 SS also and it just started making that loud clicking noise also. I didn't think my wife knew what she was talking about until I heard it for myself yesterday. Where exactly is the "blend door motor" located so I can just replace it myself?....I'm sure the Chevy Dealership will charge me an arm, leg, and 2 feet to replace it...lol

I'm having the same problem on my 2006 Impala, I wasn't able to get to the screws to remove the motor, so I just disconnected the electrical connector for a temporary solution. How did you get to the screws to remove the motor? Any suggestions.

Thanks

No, the noise you are hearing are from the servo motor that control the vent from inside to outside air. I had two of the motors go bad, one as I mention and the other was for the passenger side temperture control vent. The GM part # 15844096 (made in China) GM sells them for app. $40-$50. These two were fairly easy to replace, I replaced both motors in about an hour. You will need a 1/4" rachet driver and 5.5mm socket. The easiest way I found to get to these two motors, is by removing all items from glovebox and let the gloovebox open down to the floor. You will have to help it pass the stops. You should be able to see both servo motors from the glovebox opening. I would first verify that you are removing the correct servo motor by unpluging the power connector first and trying it to make sure the noise stops. I hope this helps.

This good info to know. But, has anyone thought that maybe there is a problem with the Remote start telling the BCM to turn this on? Mine starts clicking when I open my door when the car is not running. I would think after replacing parts and it happens again to look into the Remote/BCM potential.

Vent door chatter

After replacing the two servo motors, I opened the gear cover on both servo motors and found both had gears with broken off teeth which cause the vent to chatter. My chatter vent doors issue was resolved by replacing the two defective servo motors.

I registered because of this very problem on my 2009 Impala SS. My clicking seems to be isolated to just the driver side vents. Is that accessible from the glove box as well?

Driver side vent location

I only had to replaced the inside/outside vent and passenger temp. control servos so far and they were accessible from the glove box. I'm not sure where the driver vent control is located, Sorry!
