I have a 2008 Chevy impala. I have to replace the rack and pinion but don't have the money for the OEM one from Chevy. Any opinions on quality aftermarket ones? I've tried searching the Internet and haven't gotten anywhere with how to find a good quality on that will last. I want to do the job one and done. Tires plus wanted 950 to do it but wanted to put in a POS cardone one.

A couple of the big builders are making all-electric steering with rack and everything. Do a search for something like 'electric steering impala' and see wassup.

Keeping separate:

The complete stock equipment isn't much different in price. Sometimes it's actually less to buy a kit and swap everything.

I prefer AC Deloc, but if I had to go with something more affordable, Edlemann and Lares are better than an in-house brand from auto parts in-house brands etc. Lares does make a lot of steering equipment as their specialty.

The electric kits and the stock swap are easy enough that a local friendly shop might be affordable considering it has to be done (or scrap the car). But yep some tech knowledge is needed.

Its just that with things like this, with basic tools and just a couple odd tools you would need to buy or borrow, it's DIY-able. Like a savvy friend and you help them.

Just putting it out there. It's an opportunity for you to add some knowledge into your personal toolbox and have that knowledge at-your-command the rest of your life. Could change your life in manu good ways.
