Was that windshield damage from the deployment of the passenger air bag? And the back of the bumper is all of the out side body damage? If so something is not right. The bags should not have destroyed the windshield nor according to the bumper photo should they have gone off.

1) Is it your insurance or their insurance that wants to total the car? If theirs then talk to your agent and see what he can find out.

2) There is a design flaw on the passenger airbag deployment of your series of cars. There should not be any reason that the dash breaks from the bag deployment. Maybe the top may rip open and the dash pad cover may need to be replaced, but it should not have done what it did. Even the 93 and 94 Nissan car with the "Mike Tyson Punch" airbag did not break the windshields. I would talk to GM and other owners whom have had this problem and go from there. That dash and windshield has added cost to fix that really should not in this case need be.

Yes he can drive it with out airbag replacement. But when/if he sells it he must disclose that the airbags are not operative and have been previously deployed. If he does not then he can be sued when the next owner or so finds out.

Nothing I know of can beat an Impala. I would maybe settle for a car for now and keep an eye out for another Impala that catches your eye. No you won't be able to find an exact replacement but you will be able to find one that you get your attention and that you can learn to love. Nothing will beat the one that you had, well unless you get one with the 5.3L SS to have some fun in.

A lady in a Impala SS smoken the Honda's and Stangs now that is cool.:biggrin:
