does alot count as an answer, the pass airbag will screw you b/c of the way it deploys, if it didnt damage your dash, it shouldnt be too bad. If you're repairing yourself, check out www.moradpartscompany.com, they usually have a few in stock...
apparently it was to much...they totaled it  so now the negotiations start..
Was that windshield damage from the deployment of the passenger air bag? And the back of the bumper is all of the out side body damage? If so something is not right. The bags should not have destroyed the windshield nor according to the bumper photo should they have gone off.
don't forget you have to replace the bags, and the Air Bag Control module, the module can get expensive and it needs to be programmed. The bags, the clock spring in the steering wheel, the seat belts may be locked up, they usually jam after an accident. Its going to be a lot of work.
Wow... what happened? Hopefully it was not ur fault... I was surprised that when I got into my accident that they did not total mine out as well, although my air bags did not deploy so that is some of it. Most of the time they total something out due to the current milage or year, but since it is a 2004 I am sure thats not the reason why, if it was 10 years old or older I would understand.. I know what its like. My boyfriend just picked up a 1981 Chevy Camaro Z28, had it 24 hours, never even got the chance to drive it and a tree limb fell on it and totaled it out. Trust me I feel your pain. Hopefully you can buy it back and fix it but good luck!!! Insurance companies are a pain in the you know what.
yea the way the windshild is broke is weird
Everyone keeps saying that about the windshield..when the air bag deployed it split my dash board and the dash boar broke the windshield. I'm still waiting on the insurance company. Does anyone know if the amp in the trunk is factory? I have been looking at monte carlos and it seems all the impalas and monte carlos have one.. the insurance is not using it as a factor to the value of my car but if its stock they have to

Let me summarize: It's probably gonna be totaled. That's a lot of money!
1) Is it your insurance or their insurance that wants to total the car? If theirs then talk to your agent and see what he can find out.

2) There is a design flaw on the passenger airbag deployment of your series of cars. There should not be any reason that the dash breaks from the bag deployment. Maybe the top may rip open and the dash pad cover may need to be replaced, but it should not have done what it did. Even the 93 and 94 Nissan car with the "Mike Tyson Punch" airbag did not break the windshields. I would talk to GM and other owners whom have had this problem and go from there. That dash and windshield has added cost to fix that really should not in this case need be.
Holy crap that estimate is high!!! Talk to your insurance company, average body shop wage is $45 per/hour, $72 is way too high. And they didn't give you a value on your car, or anything. Just the cost of repairs. And why is the sales tax so high? Where are you?
I'm in Sacramento, ca but the accident was in Oakland so thats where my car is and unfortunately it was my fault so its my insurance..they offered 8500
Sold... sucks that it was your fault but they are giving you a decent check for the value of your car. YOu could easily buy another for that (here in NJ/MA, not sure what they go for in CA), and I think thats what it comes down to.
Wait they said the total damage cost <6000 and totalled it, but then offered u 8500 for the car? Doesnt that go against the definition of totalling a vehicle?

When they total a car are you allowed to keep it? No sense in letting the engine/tranny/everything else on that car go to waste...

Id try to keep it and make some additional money off it since it doesnt look all that bad... I personally wouldnt mind driving a car that had its airbags deployed, but I dont know if that is not legal.
Yes he can drive it with out airbag replacement. But when/if he sells it he must disclose that the airbags are not operative and have been previously deployed. If he does not then he can be sued when the next owner or so finds out.
She.. just saying.

If i wanted to i could buy it from the repair shop but then it would be a salvage title. And since all the money they are giving me is going to pay off the remaining loan balance I will just have to buy a new car. I have been looking on the internet and have test driven a few cars but I still don't know what I want I know I don't want another Impala, because there is not another one out there that is close to the one I had I loved that car! the color the miles the way the seat was formed to my behind from all the trips we made together :frown: I did test drive a monte carlo but I didn't like the interior of it. So the search continues for now I have to turn in my rental car...fine by me its a Mazda 3 with power NOTHING! And I'm stuck in a Honda Passport that has 221,000 miles on it until I can find a new car. I realize I'm a car snob and I should be grateful that my dad is letting me drive his winter car but it's just not the same I feel lost without my Pauly! Any suggestions for good used cars that will be the equivalent of an impala...

Nothing I know of can beat an Impala. I would maybe settle for a car for now and keep an eye out for another Impala that catches your eye. No you won't be able to find an exact replacement but you will be able to find one that you get your attention and that you can learn to love. Nothing will beat the one that you had, well unless you get one with the 5.3L SS to have some fun in.

A lady in a Impala SS smoken the Honda's and Stangs now that is cool.:biggrin:
I sold out...I guess I can retire now from the Impala forums I regret to say I bought a new car its not an impala its not even a Chevy It's a freaking Kia! Judge me if you must but its a nice car with a good warranty low miles and in my budget...it will never take the place of my princess and Impalas will always have a place in my heart!
