The check engine light comes on when the computer gets a signal that something isn't right.To find out what it is you have to hook it up to a scanner, get a code and that will tell you why the light came on.most Auto Zone auto parts will get the code out for free!

Closing this old thread. Joe, I don't actually understand how this happened. Clearly you were trying to post in the right section/thread. you think it had something to do with your new phone? what kind of phone is it, in case of the start having similar problems?

Just recently had my check engine light come on for P0449.
At the time the CEL came on, my EVAP Purge Valve was constantly actuating at idle, so I replaced that first. (See picture)
