anyone replace their pan gasket and if you could lend advice? is this as simple as unbolting and removing the pan? some folks mention having to lift the motor. i'd be doing this at home with basic tools.
I did it on my 2004 Monte Carlo SS with 3800, same setup on the Impala. It's a real PITA, you need to remove the motor mount on the side by the pulley, and lift the engine with an engine crane about 2-3 inches just to get the motor mount off. And the mount has 5 bolts that are really hard to reach, figure taking off the AC compressor to reach the front ones and the back ones can be reached with some long flex head wrenches. Once you get the mount out of the way you can just drop the pan and replace the gasket. The hard part is putting the motor mount back on, the back bolts are impossible to get back on! The transmission prevents you from reaching them to get them started in the holes. And once I got mine all back together it still leaked, rear main seal housing was cracked.
