i start my car in the morning and let it run for a descent amount of time to warm up in 20 deg. weather, when i start driving, not 5- 10 minutes down the road its start going cold...i never knew a car could go cold once it had been warmed, help me please

yeah it most likely the thermostat. it is not closing up to give the water time to warm up. it it designed to restrict the water flow in the engine so it can absorb the heat out of it . in turn The warm water flows thew the heater core(small radiator) to warm the air as it is blown thew it , . If you try the cardboard trick ..watch the engine temperature , this can cause the engine to over heat it to much air it blocked off,
