Ok guys, my 01 3.4 harmonic balancer has a wobble. Any chance I can save the crank shaft without having to take apart the lower part of the engine? Trying to save myself time and money and not go to a shop if I can help it. I just swapped the tensioner assembly cause the belt is riding to the outside. Thanks.

Huh! I was going to say, "how does a Harmonic Balancer" develop a "wobble"?" ... but I searched around and apparently it's a part that can just deteriorate over time because it's packed with rubber???

I never knew this. I've got a 2002 Impala with the 3.4L, so maybe something I have to watch out for (at 242,000+ miles now).

So - you think you can't just replace the Balancer? Looks like a $52 part through the Dealer?

No it's all one big chunk of rubber and iron with a bolt thru the middle. $52.00 is cheap insurance and easily replaced in an afternoon
