I want to buy a 96 Impala and have found one with 25,000mi for 14,000. Whats stopping me are the rumors I have heard of these cars being quite unreliable and requiring considerable maintenance compared to other cars. I need a car that will be reliable and fun, not just fun. What do you guys think?

The car is very reliable as long as you take care of it. When there is a problem, fix it. Don't just let it go. This is true for almost any car. Good luck with your choice. It is a fun car too. Read more about the car:

That is a very good price for that amount of miles.

Here is a link to MSN.com and some 200+ car reviews.

While there are not a lot of miles on it, the parts are still 11+ years old. Chevy's were not known for being all that reliable, so I would not expect sterling reliability.

On the plus side, it is a collectors car that has low miles and is not likely to go down a lot in value. It may even start trending upwards. The motor is easy to get more power out of as well.

If this is something that is not breaking the bank, and you will have a few thousand in reserve, go ahead and do it. The fact that you are not going to lose a lot of money on depreciation like normal cars helps comphensate for any costly repairs that come up.
