I just bought my impala a few days ago in another state. I drove it home and noticed the odometer hadnt changed at all. The numbers are there and i can read them just fine, but they dont change. I'm new to impalas so i dont know if this is one of the common problems or it could be something else. If anyone can help me out with this that be cool.

There is a little known dirty secret about 96 SS's. Since that analog gauge cluster and tach was only for ONE year, there is a way to stop the odometer from clicking off miles in the display. GM was lazy and since it was a bastardized change they left it wide open to fraud.

I won't post it here but it's a scummy thing to do, and that's why no one who's been around for a while trusts the miles on a 96 SS that has changed hands a few times.

What interests me is that it suddenly started recording miles again.

Send me a PM and I will let you know what may have happened.

Hopefully your cars miles were documented and you didn't get banged out here.

Good luck.
