I've recently inherited my late father-in-law's 1994 Chevrolet Impala SS. It was sitting outside, under a car canopy, for about 1.5 years exposed to cool nights (low 40's) to California Summer heat (little over 100's)

The parking brake pedal, when depressed, will not lock down. The parking brake release handle also has no spring tension. I can pull it out and it'll stay in place.

If I park the car on the incline of my driveway and put it in neutral, I can hold down the parking brake pedal down with my foot and the car won't move. But the moment I lift my foot, the pedal won't stay down and the car will start rolling.

Is there something I should check for lubrication? bent piece of metal? Any other advice?

~Thank you
