I have bought a 1968 impala custom and it has 14 inch rims and hub caps and the tires are dry rotted. I would like to keep the car original as possible, but 14 inch tire are difficult to find at a reasonable price. Was 15 inch wheels an option on 1968 impala custom coupe, do they even make a 15 inch hub cap or were they rallye's

You can get all sort's of 15 " rims for your '68. I would get some repro ralley's myself, but I'm kinda old school in alot of ways. Most people that see it will just think that they came on the car so as far as looking original it would not be that far off until you run into an 'expert'. For all I know it could have been an option back then.

Just checked the Bible (The Standard Catalog of American Cars 1946 - 1975, best book ever written) and it does list 15" wheels as an option in '68.

For the paltry sum (Green Acres... sorry) of $121.15 you could add power disc brakes, 15" hub caps, wheels and tires. Pep Boys says they beat all prices right?

It was also part of the 427 SS 385 hp Impala package (15" red stripe tires), the whole package was $358.10, and also came with the RPO L72 425 hp option for $542.45.

Remember the base price for an Impala was (if you picked it up at the factory) a low of $2846 and high of $3358, depending on model. The most expensive Caprice, the wagon, was $3570 and a 2 dr Biscaynne $2442.

The '68 I had was riding on 14" wheels, so was a '69 I had and when I switched the '69 to 15's off of a '76 Cutlass it rode way way better to the degree that I now think 14's suck and would switch them to 15's in a heartbeat. 15"s eat miles better. Check your speedo after tho.
BTW the 15" Cutlass wheels looked really good and I was able to remove the Olds emblem in the middle.

Or a set of 15" Caprice spoked cap wheels with the bowtie emblem like on my '92 Caprice might be cool and there's tons of them around, although the spoked wheels are a bit heavy and it's a stroke of luck if they are silent.

Some other options that I liked:
Positraction rear axle $42.15 (rip off - offer them $40 even)
Power door locks 2 dr $44.80, 4 dr $68.50
Power windows $100.10
heavy duty radiator $13.70 (too expensive - blow your engine instead)
dual exhaust $27.40 (!)

check out this:
325 hp 396 V8 for $158 or the 385 hp 427 for $263.30
Both of those engines came with the option that the car automatically pulls into every gas station.

and everyone's favorite:
Caprice retractable headlights......................................................$79
