09 Impala key stuck in ignition

2227 Views 5 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  jtrosky
I have changed out the wires under the shifter and the car is operating well and shifting out of park etc; however, I am still using the manual release to get the key out of the ignition. The purple wire connection is good. What is the next step with the key?

Have you checked the RAP fuse in the passenger footwell fuse compartment? I know from expereince that if the RAP fuse it blown or not fully inserted, that you will not be able to remove the key from the ignition. It's the red 10amp fuse that is up in the corner, kind of hidden by the metal fuses and big relays.

Where would this be located in an 09 Impala - it is not is in the same area?
It would be in the exact same place as pictured above.
I found the fuse box under the hood - there is a BCM 10A fuse but it didn't look bad and did not fix the key stuck issue?
This fuse is not under the hood. It's above the passenger side floormat on the inside of the car. There is a little plastic "door" that you take off to expose the fuses. Use the picture above to see exactly where the fusebox is.

I'm not guaranteeing that this is your problem, but it's worth checking.
