Does anybody have any idea what could be wrong? The low coolant light comes on and stays on pretty much all the time. But, there is plenty of coolant. In addition the tempature gauge takes a few minutes to register. I am thinking a bad sensor or maybe dirty.... I don't know.... Any Ideas would be helpful.

My guess it the temp sending unit on the engine block is bad.

I have a 2001 Impala that had the same problem with the low coolant light. Had the sensor in the radiator replaced under warranty. That one went bad about a year later. Now out of warranty. Still plenty of coolant. I disconnected the sensor and have been running like that for years.

Its on the passenger side of the radiator, by the battery. It has nothing to do with the temp gauge, it just reads the coolant level. If there is coolant all the way to the top in the radiator and it reads "low coolant level", the sensor is bad. Oil in the coolant will ruin them, make sure you don't have any, that would be lower intake gaskets or bad tranny cooler.
