Mine wasn't listed as "for sale by dealer", I thought I was meeting the guy where he worked. You'd actually never know he was a dealer unless you walked in there and talked to him, it looks more like a repair shop. Unfortunately I was in a hurry because our oldest's car died ('05 Sebring) and nobody was going to put more money into it so we gave her my wife's Crapavan leaving us with only 2 cars. Luckily this was cheap ($1000 less than the next best option), no extra "dealer fee's" and has turned out pretty well so far. Believe me this guy is the typical dirty SOB dealer type. We (had dad drive me there so I could drive it home if I bought it) got there before he did and someone else brought out the keys so we could check it out so we popped the hood and started it up and when this guy showed up he walked straight over to the car and yanked the keys out of it. "It's $2400 so either you want it or you don't!" If I wasn't in immediate need of the cheapest driveable car I would have left but I asked if I could take it for a drive and he actually said yes so off we went to beat the snot out of it. My dad was actually frightened during the ride a couple of times and I told him I just needed to make sure if I buy it that it won't fall apart when someone doesn't drive it like a 90 year old lady.

So rest assured, next time I'm looking for a car and see the arrow on the map pointing to Auto Trend I will be skipping it. I bought an '86 Monte Carlo from a dealer in 1990 and then had to buy my '92 Camaro from a dealer because it was brand new, but without winning the lottery they are not on my list of places to visit again. But that doesn't negate all dishonesty, I've heard of people actually taking their clusters apart to remove the warning lights and selling the car as having no problems. Look for BMW's on craigslist and you'll see a lot of them listed vaguely as M's hoping putting fake badges all over the car will fool someone who doesn't know the difference.

I've had the second notice for I don't know how long now and I finally made it up to the dealership...3-5 weeks is the estimate for parts to arrive! Service guy said they only made parts for 10 thousand cars when they need enough for hundreds of thousands.

This recall is a joke anyway. The rear VCG takes more heat than the front and I have seen far more rears leaking than fronts. Heck when I step on the gas with my boneville I can smell the burnt oil coming through the vents. If they are going to replace one they should do both. Just because it takes 3 times longer to do the rear should not affect my safety. I have 3 kids driving and all 3 drive Grand Prixs with 3800 engines and all with recall letters sitting on my desk. Never got a recall letter for my Bonneville SSEi though.

Got the notice last weekend that my parts were in, got around to taking the car in yesterday. It doesn't really look like they did what I thought they were supposed to, looks like all they did was change the gasket and of course wipe up all the oil that was leaking from the old one. I thought they were supposed to install a guard to stop future drips from getting on the exhaust and remove the beauty cover.

So if anyone else had it done yet, what did do on yours?

All you get is a new left hand side valve cover and gasket. The old spark plug retainer is removed and replaced with new retainers (if the first fire recall wasn't done), and the beautification cover and oil fill extension is removed and thrown away.

That's what I thought...guess the dealership didn't follow through properly on what was supposed to be included on the recall.
