History
I was looking for a comfortable vehicle that I could use as a daily plus a car hauler/parts getter. My research indicated that the best bang for the buck was a 2nd generation AWD Dodge Durango with the Hemi and the factory Class IV towing package. This would allow me to tow close to 9000lbs in relative comfort.

I bought a high milage 2005 Durango Limited with the options I needed in early 2016. It was thirsty, but I considered the fuel consumption to be acceptable. First car we towed with it was a 2002 Saturn SL1 that we planned to use as a parts donor to keep my wife's 2002 Saturn SL1 on the road.

Early 2017, my wife was driving it when she hit an enormous pothole which smashed the right front wheel and cracked open the rack and pinion steering housing. She put the uncontrolable vehicle over an embankment, took out a power pole, and continued a long way past the pole. Other than seat belt rash, she was uninjured, but the Durango was totaled.

After getting the insurance cheque, it took me 6 months to find a suitable replacement with the options, features, and price I was happy with ... a 2008 Chrysler Aspen (a Durango in a tuxedo), located about 1000km away in Montreal.
