  1. Transmission life expectancy

    8th Gen Drivetrain
183k miles on my car now. Transmission still shifts as it should.
  2. Oil Pan Gasket Change

    Chevy Impala 8th Gen Discussion
I just checked with the local GM dealer on labor costs to replace the oil pan gasket on my 2009 Impala LTZ. I was quoted $750 for labor alone, the cost of the gasket itself is about $ 30 from GM. They claim that the subframe must be dropped for this job.
  3. Leaky power steering pump

    Chevy Impala 8th Gen Discussion
It turns out that it was the power steering pump which was leaking, so I changed it out. Here are some recommendations: 1. Always get a rebuilt pump with the reservoir already mounted. GM actually sells these pump without a reservoir, but rebuilt pumps can easily be bought with the reservoir...
  4. rear spark plugs

    Chevy Impala 8th Gen Discussion
I can tell you how I did it on my 09 LTZ with the 3.9 V6 engine. I think the 3.5 V6 should be similar. The rear spark plug on the passenger side is the most difficult one to get to and the best way in my opinion is to remove the alternator to get to it. to remove the alternator, you need to...
  5. Leaky power steering pump

    Chevy Impala 8th Gen Discussion
Thanks for the reply. I will check A/C compressor for any oil leaks. However, there appears to be hydraulic fluid smell associated with this leak, not regular oil smell.
  6. Leaky power steering pump

    Chevy Impala 8th Gen Discussion
I just noticed that the serpentine belt in my 09 Impala LTZ appears to be covered in oil. I cannot pinpoint the source of the leak, but it looks like the power steering pump would be the most likely culprit. Has anyone else had a similar experience with the serpentine belt getting drenched...
  7. Oil Pan Gasket Change

    Chevy Impala 8th Gen Discussion
Is everybody reasonable sure that all oil leaks are caused by leaky oil pan gaskets, not by leaky rear main seal? How likely are rear main seals to leak on these cars?
  8. 2018 Impala LT engine tick

    Chevy Impala 8th Gen Discussion
This could be the problem. My 2013 Sonic LT purge valve makes slight ticking sound at idle, but nowhere this loud and it has been doing it since new. Also, direct injection engines are more prone to valve carbon deposits, but I do not believe this would cause the ticking noise. As for VVT...
  9. Trunk light will not turn off

    Chevy Impala 8th Gen Discussion
I fixed the problem in about five minutes. The part that is faulty is the latch receiver mounted on the trunk lid, not the latch itself mounted on the bottom trunk lip. The latch receiver has a built-in handle for manually releasing the trunk lid if a person were to be locked up inside the...
  10. Grease points/zerk fittings

    Chevy Impala 8th Gen Discussion
The most important thing about wheel bearing grease is that you use high temperature grease which will not liquify at temperatures these wheel bearings see in service. Of course, these impala do not have greaseable wheel bearings, so no issue here. I use polyurea based grease only on my...
  11. 2012 LTZ, brake problems, again

    Chevy Impala 8th Gen Discussion
I do not see how low brake fluid would cause pulsing or chatter while braking. These cars have undersized front rotors and they warp periodically. I have a 2009 LTZ with almost 180k miles on it and the front brake rotors (even the OEM ones) will not last 30k miles before they warp. As for...
  12. Trunk light will not turn off

    Chevy Impala 8th Gen Discussion
Thanks for the reply. The spring loaded lever is intact, so the problem may be internal to the latch receiver itself. I am not sure if the receiver can be easily changed out, one may have to remove the rear bumper first, if the recevier is bolted from the rear.
  13. Trunk light will not turn off

    Chevy Impala 8th Gen Discussion
I recently noticed that my trunk light was no longer working on my 2009 Impala LTZ. The bulb was burnt out, so I replaced it. However, I checked to see if the light turns off when I closed the trunk lid by folding one of my rear seat backs and the light remained on. I cannot find any switch...
  14. Paint blisters

    Chevy Impala 8th Gen Discussion
I recently noticed several blisters in the paint on my 2009 Impala LTZ. The car is white in color and the clearcoat is in great shape and not peeling anywhere. There is one blister on the hood and a cluster of blisters on top of roof near the front of the sunroof opening. There is no rust...
  15. increaseed vibration at idle with gear in drive

    Chevy Impala 8th Gen Discussion
Thanks for the advice. I change the oil pan drain plug gasket at each oil change, so this is not the source of oil leak. Neither are the valve covers, or oil filter housing gasket. Where is the oil pressure sensor on this engine? I need to check this next. Aside from the sensor, it is most...
  16. increaseed vibration at idle with gear in drive

    Chevy Impala 8th Gen Discussion
It is a damaged lower engine mount as I suspected. I looked at it today and it is crumbling apart. The trnamsission mount ont he other side of the subframe is in good shape.
  17. increaseed vibration at idle with gear in drive

    Chevy Impala 8th Gen Discussion
Thanks for the replies, I will definitely take a look at the throttle body first and clean it.
  18. increaseed vibration at idle with gear in drive

    Chevy Impala 8th Gen Discussion
Because I have an oil leak I suspect that the lower engine mounts have disintegrated to some extent, causing some engine vibration under load. The vibration disappears once the transmission is placed in neutral or park. There is no engine check light on, so I do not suspect any engine misfire...
  19. increaseed vibration at idle with gear in drive

    Chevy Impala 8th Gen Discussion
2009 Impala LTZ, 3.9 V6, 4 speed auto transmission. 167k miles. During past few months or so I noticed increased vibration when I stop with the engine idling with the transmission in drive and foot on the brake. When I place the transmission in neutral under identical conditions, vibration...
  20. 2006 Chevy Impala Power Steering Pump Rebuild advice

    Chevy Impala 8th Gen Discussion
I know the local GM dealer parts guys and they give me good price on all parts, typically no more than 10% over cost. I also tend to get OEM parts, as I have been disappointed with quality of some aftermarket parts before.
