Oil pressure Switch R & R

Hello, I am new so hoping this is correct area of forum to post my questions.

Greetings

I am responsible for maintenance on 2 Impala's a 2007 and a 2012.
The 2007 has a low Oil pressure warning Light on and I am going to replace the Oil Sender first in my trouble shooting process as I suspect it is bad.
I have read numerous threads detaining how different folks do this repair, it is interesting in that there appear to be several very different methods!
One says simply jack up front of car remove and re-install, next says remove Heat shield at front of engine remove and reinstall, next thread says remove starter remove and reinstall .Oh before I forget its a 3.5 engine, badge on trunk says flex fuel although I am a little unsure what difference that makes. ( I was asked that at the parts store when I bought the new sensor)
A little background, I am not a "Newbie" to the mechanical world as I am an old Drag racer from years ago, admittedly though, that was on rear wheel drive, 8 cylinder vehicles and of course the engines were not Transverse mounted nor emissions legal. Still, I have the basic mechanical skills necessary to do this I believe.
I am trying to do as much research on this simple procedure because I firmly believe the more knowledge and tips I have especially from experienced folk like your selves ,the better the outcome.

1)Yes, I have both a 27mm and a 1 1/16 deepwell sockets ( 1/2 drive) a swivel and different length extensions,floor jack, jackstands, drop light etc,and both deepwell sockets appear to fit the new unit equally well. In fact,........... difficult for me to determine if one size actually fits better than other??!!

2) I have also noticed that the switch threads and body itself on the replacement are Aluminum, which given what I am sure is a cast iron engine block increases the caution towards this replacement/operation, I have in hoping that given a gentle but firm installation of the switch,( 20 ftlbs?) I wont have any problem ( No strong pulling on a power handle ! LOL ) with stripped threads!

3) I am curious if folks use a small amount of the liquid teflon in small amounts on threads to improve sealing?? or none is needed? I know these are lots of questions, hoping ya'll can help!!

4) How is the best method/approach for doing this replacement??

It took you longer to type all that out than if you would have just jacked the car up and replaced it. Its that simple. What you remove to get at it depends on how big your arms and hands are. I have a sensor socket that is made to dit all these sensors so I know exactly what socket to grab. It reallt is like a 5 minute job.

1st of all I don't appreciate your smart aleck comments!!!
Second, we tried and simply coudn't get to it.....soooooI took it to a friend who has a garage and a LIFT....he actually had to work at it to get it!
So....Seems to me you either dont know what we are working on, or??..Unless you have something constructive to say....Dont.

I know exactly what you are working on. Here is the one I dug out of the garbage that I changed this morning. I wasnt trying to be a smart ass. It really is that simple to replace them.

My apologies Goostoff.
I started this thread last December and we had tried to remove the Oil pressure switch at that time, we even bought a Socket for that. We did use a floor jack and jack the car up....The problem we were having ( In addition to the fact I am no longer Young and able to maneuver the way I used to) was we could not get by either the starter or something best I can remember, it has been a while since this happened..
I hear what you are saying, but again my friend who owns a garage and had a lift that he used to change it was shaking his head that it was difficult.
So, who knows? maybe we were going about it the wrong way?

Are you both talking about the same car/engine? I would imagine that some cars/engines are harder than others.

07 Impala. mine was a 3.9 but 3.5 is the same.

Are you 100% sure that the oil pressure switch and surrounding parts are 100% the same between the two engines?

Something just doesn't add up here - you're saying that it's a 5 minute job and you just take it right out whereas the other poster (and another person that even has a lift say that it's a real pain in the rear to access and get out).

Just trying to understand where the discrepancy is....

I have yet so see an 8th gen Impala that was different from any other one with a 3500 or 3900. I havent had to replace on on a 3600 yet so I cant be certain but all other are the same. Its just a matter of how bad you want it. Its very tight but with the proper tools and the willingness to bend some plastic a bit it will come right out. Let me give you my trick.

I keep a ratcheting tie down strap handy. I put one end on the air deflector underneath and the other end I hook on an anchor that I have mounted to the wall in my shop. Cinch that sucker up and start cranking until you feel like it is ready to pop loose. It will go a long way. Now you dont have to sit there and try to hold the damned thing while your arm is wedged up in there to get at it.

Anything solid in front of the car will make a suitable anchor. I put an anchor in the wall because I change a lot of these things.

Ahh - now see, that's a lot more helpful than just saying that it's a simple 5 minute task! You never mentioned that you had to rig up an ratcheting anchor system in order to make it a 5 minute task! :-)

Big difference between your first description and your second description!

True but I probably spent about 30 seconds looking for a way to get the air deflector out of the way. I guess I take my intelligence for granted sometimes.

I have the same problem 2010 LTZ 3.9. The oil pressure comes on intermittent sometimes for literally a half second and goes out. I just know what it is and I'm being lazy but this week ripping it out
