|Ltzimpala14||I’m having some of the same issues you are having. So what I have gathered is that the Impalas are great cars but in 2014 they changed the whole transmission design mid 2014 or so. This is why there are the Impala Limited (pre) and the new style after the change. New design, new transmission completely. Some mechanics say it was built this way. You may have known this but this is just the explanation I’ve received a few times. I’m really not sure and am searching for help as well. I was thinking since the tube was cracked maybe dirt etc... was sucked in so I was thinking on cleaning the MAF sensor or replacing if it has to be since it’s a closed unit. Also changing the air filters. I’m against the wall as well. Thanks for mentioning the intake tube, mine was cracked as well. Found that on accident, expensive little part. I’m not really finding much at all on my 2014, not even a repair manuel. Any luck on one for yours? But I’ll post something if I hear anything that will help. I believe I posted mine on the wrong section of this but it’s in the 9th generation I believe. Thanks for your post|

Not a sealed transmission
OK, I just realized that I actually do not have a sealed transmission. The owners manual says the following about the transmission,
"There is a special procedure for
checking and changing the
transmission fluid. Because this
procedure is difficult, you should
have this done at your dealer."
I took this to mean I had a sealed transmission, because why would they say this if it is just the usual cap with a built in dipstick? So this weekend I took off the transmission fill cap for the first time since I bought the car 15 months ago and sure enough, there was the transmission dip stick. I guess this proves the old saying about assuming stuff.
Fluid color looked OK and looked to be at an OK level. But my car also has a lot of noticeable weird shifts, especially at lower speeds. I don't want to risk voiding the drivetrain warranty with a tune, so I guess I will just have to accept that this GM tranmsision is set up funky and just deal with the weirdness.

General transmission weirdness compared to other vehicles seems to be very common (as you noticed from a lot of posts on this board). I regularly get a feeling something is wrong with my car's transmission, but I have a certified used warranty on the drivetrain for 3 more years.
I have pretty much resigned myself to write off most transmission weirdness as being unique to the control module settings GM has done for Impalas or being unique issues with the transmission itself. Unless some new information shows up on this forum or some new symptom develops on my own car, I am just going to go with the flow for the time being.
I do wonder about your transmission dipstick goo comment. I thought all the newer Impala transmissions are sealed and do not have a dipstick. Personally, I hate not having a way to easily check the level, nor even check the color of my transmission fluid.

Think how these transmission hold up depends on how they are treated. As to the sometimes "funky" shifting noted by some, seems that some tune's eliminated those shifting issues. Found it interesting that one poster here posted/complained how he had to fork out some cash for a rebuild and complained about other issues as well, but then in another thread went on to say something about "going Dukes of Hazzard" in his car.

After reading some of the forum threads, I'd say Impala transmissions are garbage!
1. I have a 2015 with 69,500 miles. The power train warranty ends in 3 months (August). Problems and odd behaviors are listed below. I would very much appreciate any advice on how to get any of this fixed before the warranty ends.
2. The second gear starts at an rpm that is almost the same as the end rpm of the first gear. Could something be wrong with the torque converter, or is it by design? I read in the owners manual that the second gear can be used instead of the first gear while using manual, when the car is accelerated from a stop. The feature is to be used when traction is very poor, reducing spinout.
3. The second gear is often used for a mere two seconds while accelerating slowly!
4. While shifting from 2nd to 3rd, the engine sometimes revs up between gears, delaying the shift considerably. This used to happen all the time until I discovered (much thanks to this forum) that my intake tube was severely cracked. After I installed a new intake tube, the revving between gears decreased considerably. The noise, power, and fuel efficiency also decreased noticeably.
5. While in 3rd gear, the rpms drop a single time while the car is accelerating. Again, I'm wondering if there's a problem with the torque converter.
6. The car shudders when the rpm is below 1500, while going up a hill. This happens in drive or manual mode. It is somewhat noticeable in 4th gear and is very noticeable in 5th and 6th. I took the car to the dealer to have some things checked before the warranty was up. I drove the car with the mechanic in it and showed him what happens. He noticed it but said "I don't know".
We put some very thick silicone lube where the throttle body meets the new intake tube, and where the EGR tube meets the intake tube. We did this to create a seal, but im worried we created a problem.
7. From a cold start the rpms are all over the place until it settles down. Up down up down.
8. I noticed a very small amount of black goo at the top of the transmission dipstick opening. Pretty sure it was dirt from the outside of the opening. Does it need a flush?Thanks for reading, and for any responses.
