|Old Bones||Sorry to hear. My local GM dealer's shop manager , a knowledgeable drag racer matched my torque converter to my trans and it's all been good.|

And about the beefed up trans... I supposedly had a beefed up rebuild done on my 02 GTP that made about 300 horsepower and the dam thing shit the bed on me just over a year after the rebuild, and the trans shop basically told me to get bent. Hopefully your shop treats you better.[/QUOTE]
Just curious , when you had your tranny beefed up did you tell the shop what HP to spec it to ? I have no experience with front wheel drive but my 305 had a Turbo 250 which would have blown up when I put in a 330 HP , 350cid so had a 350 Turbo Trans built to take 350 Hp , it is rock solid.

Good luck with your project. Those ebay kits total under $400? And looking at the first link it says it would work on my 2012 and could make up to 450 hp. Ummm, would suspect this kit is a gimmick, too good a deal to be true.
If you do this though, report back how it goes and what type results you get.

Turbo is a muffling device, they build more backpressure in the exhaust system than you get in the intake system, not going to get good sound.
If you like sound I would sooner look at modifying the engine but keeping it naturally aspirated. An intake manifold upgrade, and a larger cam shaft with exhaust upgrades should get you more power than FWD can use anyway and sound good, probably be at the limit of what the tranny will handle anyway. Be a LOT easier to pull off.
The intake on the FWD 5.3l motors is crap an LS6 intake is a fair bit better and I believe adaptable. the heads are LS6 heads but with heavier valves.

I'm no expert, but you are going to have to do something for the exhaust manifolds and a crossover pipe, probably different piping for the intercooler to work best with your engine bay, rework the air filter set up, and most likely fuel system mods... better, higher flowing pump and injectors. Tuning will be a must... This will cost more than you think, but definitely a cool project.

|Bill58||Going to need a ton of exhaust fabrication to feed the hot side of the turbo. ECU programming and a 2 bar map sensor.|

Getting in over my head... on purpose?
Greeting, And a preemptive happy memorial day!
So, I've got it in my head that I *REALLY* want to add a turbo to my '06 SS w/ 5.3ltr - because... well... why not?
I recently had the transmission rebuilt and supposedly he used tougher-than-factory parts in the rebuild and should be a lot stronger than factory.
As I've stated many times, I'm not a mechanic... so much as a tinkerer who wants to learn. What all do I need to accomplish this feat of engineering? I've found a few "kits" on ebay that are supposedly compatible with my car.. but I feel like they are going to be missing some vital piece that will leave me with a half-assembled car lol
I've found this - doesn't seem to include an inter cooler (necessary?):
and this inter cooler kit:
Any experts our there that confirm that is all I need? I presume I'd also need some one to modify or program the ECU / chip to work with the added air flow / pressure in the system?
I thank you for your time and appreciate all guidance in this foolish endeavor.
