The issue really is short supply - not from GM, but from the manufacturer of the module. Took around 7 weeks before I got mine. I only lost one module, but they replaced both - and the new "kit" includes shrouds to keep the environment away from the replacement units, so the failure shouldn't happen again. My dealer (which is excellent) was well-versed on the issue, so the issue was explained fully, and my expectations realistically set. Admittedly, I wasn't prepared for the (nearly) two month delay and had asked others, elsewhere on the forum, what THEIR wait time was like - just to compare notes.

apguy FWIW I just put in 2 new blind spot sensors in our 14 LTZ from a 2016 GMC Terrain and (knock on wood) the fault went away. We just took a couple hr trip in the car and they seem to be working properly...We'll see if down the road the BCM ever gets angry at the new sensors for not being programmed to the car yet but so far so good. $30 a piece on eBay.

Faron79 The Svc-Rep I've known for years said there was a revised module(s). Learned that here first tho'!

The DIC keeps scrolling.... "Service Side-Detection System."
"Service Front Camera"
"Service Park Assist"
Good Lord!

I love my 2015 LTZ a lot, but it's sure Bossy!

With our high snowbanks along all the streets here this winter, the rear side-sensors helped a lot! But they don't work now...

I don't have the Radar-Cruise, therefore no auto-braking. If I have it enabled, the Front camera does detect if you're closing too fast on something, the car loudly beeps & flashes the 4 red-lights on lower part of windshield. The Wife's 2014 AWD Turbo-Regal has the Auto-Cruise & the Auto-Braking. She's had no trouble with any of her sensors however.

I never did rely on the sensors very much. They do "Help" however, & should be working!!!

Yes.....I agree. There's fewer "Gear-heads/Enthusiasts" nowadays. Sadly, part of an era is passing................

jtrosky Yikes - that thing looks like it was brand-spanking-new too... Ouch.

plano-doug This guy could have used some of these new features. The "don't lose your truck in the water" automatic braking system might have been handy

jtrosky I definitely agree, Doug. I have a 17 year old son and he honestly has no real interest in even getting his drivers license yet - and really has no interest in cars for that matter.

That's funny. But I think there's a genuine cultural transformation going on. I can remember growing up anxious to get my driver's license so I could enjoy driving a car. Plus, that was a huge step that opened up the world for me.

I think today's kids - and I'm a parent of a few - don't see cars in the same light. Now it's just a transportation device to get them where they are going. It might as well be a transit bus or train. Or a rickshaw, where they can sit in the back and look at their smart phones

Seriously, the autonomous car is that rickshaw. And it may be that today's kids have been taught, a bit under my radar, that cars are bad and pollute the air and are not sexy.

I grew up coveting the neighbor's 1968 Cougar with 428 Cobra Jet. My kid wants an iPhone 11

I hate to say it, but I think cars are losing the significance they once had.

I think of things like automatic-braking to be on a different level than something like ABS. With ABS, you still completely controls when the car slows down, it just makes it work better when you do apply the brakes in certain situations - whereas automatic braking is the car doing something you've never asked it to do at all. At least to me, they are on different levels...

It would be interesting to see if all of these "safety" features like blind-spot detection and automatic braking actually decrease the number of accidents or not. When I read about peoples cars slamming on the brakes for no reason (like mentioned above - at least I think this is where I saw it), that actually *creates* safety issues (like someone rear-ending you becuase of it) instead of reducing them.

I guess I'm just "old fashioned". :-) I'll be that old guy saying "when I was young, ...." and talking about walking up hill to school - both ways - in the snow. :-)

jtrosky I'll be honest, I *do* use the backup camera I added to the Impala and the built-in camera on the Challenger (the Challenger has TERRIBLE visibility to the rear and rear sides). But if I didn't have them, it certainly woulnd't be a deal breaker!

1970cs I tried to sell our cruze. The guy wanted to know if had a backup camera. I replied, still old school, turn my head and used my mirrors! It's an Eco so base with added features for gas mileage.

We have cameras and bumper sensors, which snow waffing up on those sets them off. Never use the cameras, just used to doing what i have been doing for over three decades.

apguy I'd love to leave ours alone but when GM decides to tie in 4-5 sub systems in with it that all get disabled because of it, it becomes a nuisance and a distraction and a safety issue. This is a design flaw that GM knows about but isn't doing anything to fix. If I bought a 40k+ car that gets brought to its knees by faulty equipment and the dealers come back insinuating how much money they make on the fix, I'd be looking elsewhere.
