BlueChevyGuy I have an Elite catch can on my 2015 3.6. It was one of the first things I did after buying the car. I wrote up a tutorial which can be found at the link below. The need for a catch can is widely debated here, but I've caught a significant amount in 60,000 miles. Over a quart, to give some perspective. I haven't logged in to this site for quite a while, so this is good timing! My pics are on Photobucket, and they disappeared from this thread once they started charging hosting fees. However, I looked today at my old thread and they are there - let me know if you can see them. If you can, feel free to right click and save them to help you through your installation efforts. Good luck!

GoBlowSnow GM's 2014+ trucks may slightly benefit from a catch can on the 5.3L and 6.2L V8s but I don't think the 3.6L needs it.

carviewsonic Thanks, there isn't a lot online about LFX intake deposits, and your post verifies this. I'll install the catch can just to satisfy my own curiosity about what it will catch, since I have it now anyway.

jtrosky There are a few people that have installed catch cans on the site - I'm sure they will chime in. But I'll be honest, it does NOT seem to be a major, widespread issue in the 2012+ Impalas. I don't think I've seen a single complaint of it on this site - not one - and some of the 2012+ LFX Impalas have hundreds of thousands of miles on them by now...

For example, here is post from another site about a 2012 Impala they looked at with 130k miles (with pictures) - not an issue:

I honestly don't think a catch can is needed on these cars - GM has obviously keep this issue to a minimum via ECM programming - especially if you use full synthetic oil and change it every 5k miles or less.

Sure, if someone uses cheap oil and never changes it, it might be an issue, but generally speaking, it does not seem to be a big problem on well-maintained 2012+ Impalas....

Just my opinion - not going to "debate" about whether to use a catch can or not (been there, done that, more than once) - that is completely up to you - but I just haven't seen any evidence that it's a big problem on these cars. It's up to you to decide if it's worth removing it every time you need to take your car to a dealership (some *do* document such things when they see them, just in case!)....

Again, just one mans opinion based on what I've seen.

Anyone have a catch can? & fuel dilution

First time post... I ordered a new Impala LT with the 3.6, leather, Bose stereo & nav., etc. Reason for not ordering the 2LT was the sunroof, takes up too much headroom for me (I'm 6'2"), and a few thou less purchase price helps too. I ordered in late February, should be here soon.
Anyway, I have a catch can (Elite) waiting to install. I'm convinced it won't hurt anything, and it should help reduce intake valve deposits. I have a spare GM PCV to intake hose to reinstall if needed (and remove catch can), to avoid any possible warranty hassle in the future. Does anyone here have a catch can? Where did you mount it, and does it "catch" much oil?
Also wondering about DI fuel dilution if the oil. Somewhat of an issue with Honda's 1.5 L turbo from what I hear, but haven't heard of any dilution issue with our 3.6.
Interested to hear your opinions and knowledge...
