2000 Chevy Impala LS, HELP NEEDED ASAP.

2000 Chevy Impala LS, 3.4L
I hope i am placing this in the right location. i am new.

I have searched all over the internet for 2 days now. checked with our local Chevy dealer, checked parts stores and salvage yards. i am at a complete dead end. It is not my car, i am attempting to fix it for someone, but i have never run into this problem before.

Anyway, what happened was the belt on the car was bad and decided to shred, creating a V-Belt with a whip. (lol) anyway, when it did that it ripped the wires to the main engine wiring harness, located above the water pump. instantly killing all power to the engine/trans

I am attempting to bypass the connector and just wire the wires back together, considering the wiring harness (comes as a whole, and is $947.46, discontinued part and not installed, and id have to go to another state to pick one up from the nearest salvage yard)

I re-wired the purple, Yellow/black and one other matching one. (don't remember color) however, i have 2 greens, 2 green/white, 5 pink wires, and a brown one and another pink one that does not have a mate in the wiring harness. It WILL run now, but not properly. I am looking for tips to get it right, or what all those wires actually go too! I need to get this car fixed asap, because i am now over my dead line. and it does not run well enough to be driven long distances.

I have included some pictures of the wires/harness i am referring too. and if anyone knows the "technical" name for it, please let me know. Thank you!!!!!!!!

Well youre correct on your name, it is the engine harness. Honestly you would need to grab a hanes manual and look at the wiring schematics in it. I am getting ready for work but I can have a look later tonight.. I know you have a deadline, but things come up, so let the customer know that their lack of maintenance destroyed a pretty important part to the vehicle and you need more time.

Yes, the entire harness would be 50 dollars, and probably 50 dollars in gas for my Monte Carlo to go pick it up. I told her we could do that. but she wanted the cheapest route (10 Dollars for parts), which was rewiring it. since she said she does not plan on ever having the engine out. I also told her that i COULD do it, but it may take longer depending what "issues" i run into (since its multiple same colored wires, and I never let a belt break and cause that, and no other cars I've ever worked on was close to that, I've replaced many belts but never a broken one, tbh) but she wanted it completed by today (10/30/13) but its not happening and i warned her it might not happen. and we had a nice like 45 minute chat about checking & replacing belts, changing oil, and other maintenance lol. and what happens if you DO NOT do it.
I've got a 92 Chevy k1500, driven HARD, Take it literally ANYWHERE, 202K, well maintained and NEVER Skips a beat, Runs & Drives like it just came off the showroom back in 92.
I would also really appreciate it if you could take a look for me, when you get a chance. I planned on digging out my Haynes & Chiltons manuals, HOPEFULLY i have one for the Luminas/Impalas/Monte Carlos.

I will keep you all posted about the progress! Thanks again!!

My buddy needed one of them about a month ago. he had a short off of a lose wire onto the engine, melted about 1/3 of the engine harness. but our local salvage yard had one for 25 bucks. I do appreciate you taking your time to reply to my dilemma, Thank You also.

Well, In Case, anyone ever runs into this problem, the cause was the serpentine belt breaking and where Chevy decided to locate that harness!

I've include a wiring diagram that will help you figure it out. only a $10 repair and really easy with the diagram i am posting!

Not a problem, figured if someone else ran into this problem, they may come across this forum. and help another person out. Its straight from GM, and made it a breeze. Sorry i didn't reply sooner, i got caught up repairing a Dodge 3500 Cummins.

I did look. The reason I asked is because they appear to be scanned prints, not web based images.

Head out to a local junkyard and pull the harness if you need one. I can't imagine it being pricey at all.

00 Impala 3.8l engin rather than the 3.4l same broken harness connection/plug though

Just curious if I could also use the wire diagrams posted to rewire my harness? Mine broke while changing the battery... I have a 2000 impala with the 3.8 not the 3.4, so guess im just curious if the wiring will be the same... Thanks to anyone willing to help. Im new here so I do hope ive posted correctly!!

I would suggest using the proper diagram. Use this guide here to gain access to Ebsco
