Question Should i ?????

whats up guys am bout to get a paxton supercharger for my 96 ss the tech told me that there a good name an very reliable but i just read 25 paxton supercharger reviews an maybe 2 of them was postive the rest were very negative. Does anyone have or know of somebody with a paxton on their ss or any taughts of all will help...

hmmm havent heard anything on hear about a paxton yet but if the reviews say its shitty then id listen!!

Im in the same boat bro. I am considering supercharging my 95 Impala SS but dont have the cash yet. I heard Paxton is good as well. I never heard anything bad though? All those bad comments could be because all twenty people need help with their problems. All cars have problems... You know what I mean? If their cars were running good, they probably would not be posting. You got to realize the internet is world wide. All other twenty million paxtons could be running tits. I dont know. You should/I would get some other opinions and watch both sides of the coin. I would look at the quality of a new Paxton set up to see if the product is of quality by comparing to another brand--in person you know... You can tell if it is junk by the look and feel of it. Bearings and casting and such. What type of hardware comes with it. if the parts are tempered like the nuts and bolts. Things like that. Stripped nuts and bolts are the worst! Good luck. PS>>Hot rod forums would be more ideal as to getting good feed back being they are into fast rides primarily. Hope this helps.

I heard great things about paxton as well.. Drove an older mustang with one and damn that thing was crazy fast. Im sure the performance will be there, but I can say much in terms of longevity or durability.

If you throw a charger on there make sure you freshen up that bottom end with some quality performance parts, while you at it you might as well bore her 40 over or throw a stroker kit on there, or work the heads and intake. Trust me either way you will be happy.

If you want a supercharger, do your research first. You need to really understand what you are getting into. I have a Powerdyne SC and I love it!

1996 Impala SS DCM, Powerdyne Supercharger 6 psi, 3.73s, Snow Performance Water/Meth injection, Borla catback system, Grotyohann long tube headers, Magnaflow high flow cats, Hotchkis springs, front and rear sway bars, Bilstein shocks, Vigilante 3000 stall TC.

No intent to get into a pissing war over turbos or superchargers..... but from my perspective... a good turbo or two is a better choice for the long term than a supercharger, for a variety of reasons.

I wish you luck whatever your choice... but I don't know anyone who has had a supercharger... that liked it once the novelty wore off and the repair and maintenance bills came in. On the other hand.... I know several people with turbo cars, myself included, that are more than happy with turbo performance AND longevity. My current turbo car (non-chevy) has 93000+ miles on it... never been taken apart or rebuilt, and still turns mid to high 12's in the quarter just as it did when it had 35000 miles on it.

I can't speak highly enough of a well put together and tuned turbo system, as a machinist and engine builder.

A lot of truth to this statement, but it depends on exactly what you are looking for and what power levels you want. I have had my supercharger for two years and the novelty has NOT worn off! I have had zero repair bills and zero maintenance on it, except the work I do to keep it polished. But that is why I got the one that I have. As far as longevity, it depends on what level of boost you are looking for. A high boost application will be different from a lower boost application. I am running a stock motor, so I'm only pushing 6 psi, very mild. But that is what I wanted a good street setup. Once you start pushing over 10psi, that changes things. But for both applications the motor needs to be built for it.

I had a friend who had two Impala's one supercharged (Powerdyne) and one turbo charged. He said the turbo would blow the SC car away. Other guys I know have said the turbo is a better setup then a SC, all around.

The main thing is to research both options and make a decision based on what you want the car to do.

My main argument for turbo over supercharging is that turbos provide a soft torque hit on spool, generally, as opposed to the supercharger which is pounding the bearings from start-up to turn-off. Regarding longevity, this is always better since it reduces wear by reducing power when power is not needed, or necessarily wanted. Turbos also allow for much easier tuning for the weather, track, or driving conditions present when set up properly with a manual or electronic boost adjustment.
