2012 long term thoughts

Man... I havent been here in like 3 years. Last time I made a post about my short term thoughts of my 2012 Impala LT. Time to update that a little bit.

I hate this car. I genuinely hate this pile of shit with more passion than you can imagine. It is the most nit-picky thing with small stuff going wrong all the damn time. It has slowly driven me insane and I honestly cant wait to get rid of the thing. I cant go into debt and get a car right now, but so help me god the first chance I am able to, that pile of shit is out the door.

I have had to replace 2 of the actuators under the dash twice, and one 4 times. FOUR TIMES. IN 3 YEARS? WHAT? These things are the most useless pieces of junk. What makes it worse is that the damn car wants to adjust everything when you shut it off or right when you turn it on. Why cant the car just leave everything alone when I park it? Why does it have to set the HVAC to a certain setting all the time? It puts unneeded stress on the parts. Its no wonder they break prematurely.

I have had the fuel ventilation problem twice now. I am terrified to fill the tank or let it drop below 1/4. I have to make damn sure to keep the thing between 3/4 and 1/4 at all times otherwise i risk the ventilation problem happening again. Jesus christ.....

Have had to replace the power steering pump. Rear defroster stopped working (as if it really ever did anything to begin with. the stupid thing ran across the middle of the rear window). had to replace the sway bar. the traction control just random shuts off or turns on whenever it feels like it. transmission is the worst transmission GM has ever made. the list goes on and on and on and on.

A few of these issues can be fixed with a tune. I get that. I really do. But you shouldnt have to do shit like that to make a car at least halfway decent to drive. It is beyond ridiculous that GM let this shit out of the factory the way it is.

and heres the best part, I have only put 11000 miles on it in 3 years. 11000 miles and all of this shit has happened? this is insane. and before anyone says it, no, i am not hard on my vehicles. My last car had over 200000 miles without a single problem other than the AC compressor died.

Also, it still drives me absolutely crazy that the drivers seat, steering wheel and gauge cluster are on a slight angle. who the fuck designed this car?

Anyway.... yea. I am dropping this hot garbage the first chance I get. you can bet on it.

Ooooh how witty. Nice job there.

I guess I can't come in here and give my actual thoughts about the car if they are negative. I had no clue these forums were just a circle-jerk.

I am 36 years old junior. I have owned multiple vehicles and my 2012 Impala is by far the shittiest one.

So so so terribly sorry that you dont want to hear what I have to say even though it is my opinion. I apologize to you snowflake.

I mean, it is kind of childish that a 36 year old came on here to have a bitch-fit, and then wants to call someone else junior. I can understand disappointment with the car, but when you act like this, can't help but expect people to take jabs at you. Sometimes you get a lemon, sorry about your luck.

Maybe you got a lemon? With over 170 thousand miles on our 2012 there have not been any major issues. I did have to replace one actuator. The hubs are known to be prone to failure with any pothole hits as well and have had to replace 3 of them.

Far as the rant, I get it and everyone has opinions but honestly at 50 years old don't particularly care for the poor choice of language and agree it comes off a little childish.

My 6 year constantly asks why. What adults can learn from 5 and 6 year olds, to listen with your ears and mind open. Hard to learn when you don't listen ......

Maybe cut them some slack. I'm sure they pay their parents rent for the basement space.

I had a 1979 Corvette that I bought new with only 12 miles on it...drove it out of the showroom. It was the worst car I have ever owned, so I understand your frustration and anger. However, we can do without the choice of language and the disrespect to Jesus. At your age, take thought before you write to express yourself.

Wow. I'm not real familiar with the lay of the land around here, as I'm only here to read up on why my girls impala is such a pile of crap, but if there's a rule against using "swear words" then the mod can handle the OP & his post however the mod sees fit, but seeing how the OP never used any of them words towards soother another user in an abusive way, and was only referring to the frustration from his bucket of a car...You all are sounding like some complete pussies. Are you really that offended by the word "fuck"? I guarantee that all of your wives, mothers, and daughters have all said that word before...And I guarantee it was followed by the word "me" at some point. If you don't like the OPs word selection on his post, find a different post or start one yourself. How you going to cry like a bitch because someone used the word fuck on the internet? Get the fuck outta here with that shit. And since it seems to be so important to state around here, yes I'm older than the OP...And I've never got below a 96% in a college English course so try to correlate my word choice with something other than lack of education. And yes I have class, but this is a fuckin car forum. TF you think mechanics talk like in the shop working on these pieces of shit? Rant over.

Now now kids, let's play nice in the sandbox.

A rant here or there is expected on a 7 yr old car and yes we can tolerate it. Where this thread went off the rails was a giant rant that rambled and some points were repeated. We all can deal with an occasional F bomb.

Here's some of my rants on my ex 2018 Camaro on Camaro6 Forum with 4,000 miles at trade in:

Headliner cut too short, ends couldn't make it under trim (factory oversight, many cars affected)
2 stage paint, under coat coming up over over coat, like pimples.
Well known defect in 8 speed tranny that develops after 35,000 miles, shudder at highway speeds

That was on a car that was less than 1 yr old, I bought new. Just stated the facts on the forum & traded it in.

Just consider your audience and tamp it down a bit.

I think just about EVEYRONE here has had the popping vent issue and had to replace the actuators more than once. I will agree with him that GM didnt put refinement effort into these Impala's and considering its the also the same exact car that came out in 2006 with an updated powertrain, the 2012 versions should be solid.

My 2006 3lt with the 3.9L has the transmission clutch piston replaced twice, coolant pipe for ticking sound, all four tire pressure monitors replaced, front wheel bearings go bad, and the actuators replaced a few times and all this from 10K-40K in 3 yrs. Ill give that a pass as a 1st year model.

Fast Forward to 2012 LTZ with a new powertrain.
My car currently has 133K on it and the actuators have been replaced 2twice already and making more noises, meaning im going to have to replace a motor once again. I have a broken power seat motor on each of the Front seats, the annoying exhaust rattle from the factory that GM just said is normal and to live with it, Fuel Pump failure at 108K, Fuel needle wouldnt go below quarter causing me to run out of gas, but after 2 bottle of fuel system tear=tments it went back to working.

Ill just have to be real with myself that these Impalas are just throw away cars, and maybe I can get another for super cheap on the used car, but would have getthe newer Impalas or the Buick Lacrosse with the 3.6L/9spd auto.

Nuts, my 2013 LTZ seems fairly sane compared some of this, thou the 6 speed box has the valve body issue that causes 3rd to 4th hard shifts under light to no throttle, and a quiet engine speed rattle between 1400 and 1700 rpm, more noticeable in cold weather. Having both a 7th and 8th gen, the 8th gen is clearly built to a lower standard, these are fleet cars and probably fall apart after 10 years (which is a pity because I like the styling, simple dash/controls and performance). The 7th gen I've had a good run from after fixing the well known passlock and hard shifting issues, but it's developed a new collection of faults of the electrical variety over the last couple of years - which is the reason I'm back on these forums - looking for info/ideas on what I can check/test, most of the threads are dead ends where the OP never states if they tracked the problem down.
