Dammit...I thought they screwed up and were giving it to me free. I accidentally found it when I pressed the XM button. XM59 and XM24 (I think), the Margaritaville one. lol

I NEVER planned on getting XM radio and almost bought a head-unit that didn't even support it. I'm glad that I didn't buy that one, because I now subscribe to XM and use it all of the time. I do wish the audio fidelity was a little better (can't compare to the iPod or SD Card .mp3 audio quality), but it's better quality than FM and I love not having any commercials!

Originally, I got it for 5 months for $25 ($5/month) with some special deal, but then it auto-renewed and I think it's about $10/month. No discount for paying for it annually either.

Once I got media/music BT in my car, XM was old news - I subscribed for years.... On the 8th gen Impalas, if you don't want an ugly cord from your phone to the head unit - XM is still a good viable selection.

Personally, I have tons of music available "locally" without wires (32gb SD Card, 80gb iPod, CD Player, bluetooth streaming, etc), but I still like XM because I don't always want to listen to the same music or have to select what to listen to. It's nice having someone else do the DJ'ing sometimes. Unless there is something that I'm specifically in the mood for, I just use XM. No matter how much music you have locally, you'll never even come close to the variety that you can get on XM...

^^ Have you used Pandora One (not just regular Pandora) yet by chance?

No, I kinda gave up on Pandora completely, just because I get crappy phone reception in a lot of the areas I travel in (I live in the middle of nowhere). I've also found the Pandora sound quality to be not-so-great (probably related to the crappy phone reception!). That's why XM is such a nice fit for me - doesn't require a good cell signal.

What is different with Pandora One?

If you don't have good phone service, Pandora is definitely not the way to go for sure!

Benefits of ONE over regular Pandora:

ONE gives you many more "skips" per hour, longer timeout periods (can listen for 5 hours without any interaction with Pandora (nice on long trips)), it transmits at a noticeably higher sound quality - more BPS/Bits Per Second than regular Pandora (better than XM, clearer and crisper), ZERO ads/commercials. I pay 3.99 per month I think total (including taxes and whatever).

The biggest draw for me is ZERO ads/commercials and sound quality. XM used to be truly commercial free too - not true any longer on all stations.

They're stalking me and sent me a letter to reactivate my radio, which is weird since I don't remember ever paying for it...anyhow, not going to. $20 for 5 months isn't bad, but I can't justify the cost.

When they auto-renewed me @ $10/month, I initially thought that was way too much - then I realized I pay a similar fee every month for Netflix and that I used XM more than I used Netflix. It really has grown on me... Not sure how long I'll keep it for though - if I get a better phone with 4G LTE service (current phone has 4G WiMax, which is hardly in use anywhere), I might just go back to Pandora... It is nice not worrying about needing the phone to listen to music in the car though....

But now that I also have a Roku in the car and headrest monitors, better phone service would also allow me to use Netflix "on the go", which is kinda cool...
