I can't imagine them not having a basic v-6 version that couldn't be had for $25k after deals. You can get a 2012 Impala LS right now for $22,000, I don't see this new car being anywhere near twice that car.
I got my 2012 lt for 20,300 through my dad(who works at a Chevy dealership)
1st couple years of release, I doubt there's going to be many deals on them
I'm guessing an equivalent ls will sell for 5-7k more than what they cost now
Just look at the cost of the Malibu

For me it's safe to say that I won't own a 9th gen impala(unless I get it for free). I'll just put that money towards a b-body, and then a few of the 60's models.
FWD sucks in snows. Maybe with a lighter engine it's not so bad. But with a v8 it just buries itself in a few inches of snow. Also under steers when it's icy out, making it terrifying if you hit a patch of ice at the wrong moment.

I much prefer RWD with weight in the back. It makes it much more predictable in the snow, AWD would be better. But I liked driving my '83 grand prix a lot more than my Impala SS. And my GP doesn't even have positrac!

My 09 SS was decent with snow tires on. Without, everything you said above X2. Interestingly, our FWD 01 Caddy with a V8 (275 HP) is dynamite in the snow, always has been. Wonder why? Even with 16" snow tires on the SS, the Caddy with 16s was always more competent in the snow, particularly at take offs. Maybe because the SS spins the front so easily, even on dry?

No AWD is a no sale for me. It really looks good inside and out but GM needs to get with the times and option it like similar cars in the market. This means AWD, tiptronic or paddle shifters, some kind of turbo drivetrain, etc.

I do like it and will consider one.

I think it will be priced nearly what an LTZ is now perhaps a bit more.

I love it, its what I would expect to see in a Merc.

However, I hate the brown leather, sorry, just MHO. I'm sure they will come up with many trims by then though. I'm thinking the damage on this will be about $30k at least.

This is a great car with a great design and tech/safety features. Unfortunately AWD is not an option because of "marketing objectives". That was VW's reply to my email re: the lack of xenon headlights on the new Passat while entry level Euro 1.0 liters get xenons. Honda does the same thing. If you want xenons, buy an Audi or an Acura. You want AWD? Step up to the Lacrosse or XTS.

This new Impala indeed has the world's ugliest steering wheel. I have already contacted GM on this one.

LED tails are a must as are Xenons or better yet LED headlights. It will be a few years before BMW's laser headlights are adopted by others and probably 15 years for GM.

AWD would be great but that decision has been made and the adequate FWD is going to have to do.

10 airbags, LDWS, BLIS, collision mitigation are superb features. Many cars do not have all of these features. The impressive new Fusion does but has collision warning (great) but not automatic full brake action like the Impala and it has only 8 airbags. The equally impressive Altima has similar safety features and gets 27/38 with a 2.5 CVT and no e assist battery pack. It has only 6 airbags which was OK 10 years agy but is entirely unacceptable today. The V6 is stellar but no AWD either.

I may wait for the Impala which is due early '13 if I don't move on something else sooner. Avalon btw, a major competitor to the Impala does not have AWD. How about a $55K Acura RL or a $45K MKZ with AWD or any Audi to get that feature???

They have a 2013 Malibu in the dealership, I think its there to advertise the Xzilon has its spray Painted with that word. That Malibu looks sweet as $h1t, its a damn nice car, but they have changed it too much, it has not passed on the Malibu trend, its kinda like calling the 2011 Cruze a 2011 Cobalt, people would not know it was a Cobalt. What does this have to do with this tread? Well, the 2014 Impala is kinda doing the same thing, its a sweet looking ride from inside and out, but, it has changed the Impala original look, of course over the years things will change, but up until 2014, the Impala will take on a completely different look, as the 2013 Malibu has.

The current model with AWD is right at $41K with the top line pkg. It can be bought for mid to upper 30s. The '13 with more features as an option and a higher base price is expected to top out $43-45K.

Mayhap they should call it Caprice? I would love it if they called it Bel Air.
