The video and quotes I found are not from GM.
I still have not seen the 2013 impala and from what I hear I dont think I want to.
Is there even going to be a 2013 impala?

Iam thinking much the same as the 12 car and 1/2 year production run with the 2013, then re tool for a early 14 out in mid 2013.

V8 please
some of my trucks have the 4wheel drive/2 wheel option, The SS should have something similar, like AWD with a RWD option. That would be cool.
I IDK if thats possible but I want that option.
So, if its snowing I can go with the AWD and when I want to GO I can use RWD.

Car needs AWD. I'm not spending around $40k for a FWD car that supposedly gets 30mpg in its V-6 trim, which knowing Chevy is probably around 10% less in actual driving.

A few things I would like to see:

Availability of a manual transmission with the 4 cylinder. I realize manuals are becoming more rare, but when driving in the mountains with automatic transmission, 4 cylinder vehicles, it seems like you have to downshift on a regular basis in order to maintain speed, raising RPM's and taking a chunk out of fuel economy. One reason I decided against the Malibu was the lack of used V6 models available.

Standard LED taillights. I can't tell in the back view if the car has LED or conventional. This is what the industry is moving to, and would be a nice feature on this car. Although I personally do not like the rear in these pictures...looks too much like a Hyundai/Kia to me.

I would also like to see a more basic radio option available. Don't get me wrong, I like touchscreens in some applications, but cars are not one of them. I like to reach over and feel a knob that I know what it will control, not to have to look over to see what I am touching. This is important when going down the highway. Steering wheels could address this to some extent.

I think, overall, it is a nice looking car. However, I hope this doesn't end up alienating any buyers. One selling point to me with my 2010 Impala was its relatively simple design. As much as the press blasts this car for being outdated, keep in mind it still sells. A good comparison is the early 2000s Ford Taurus. Looking back, it was also a relatively simple design, and was a reasonably good seller. I still see many of those on the road today. Ford made the first mistake of doing away with the Taurus name. When Ford brought it back, it moved the car upmarket, maybe too far. A loaded model is around $40K, and you really don't see the current ones in large numbers, at least in my area.

Pricing and quality are two big factors that could make or break this new Impala.

From what I have seen the car has the basic control knob for the radio, look at the close up of the interior pics and you will see it.
But....
If it is against the law to text and drive then why have a big ass pop up touchscreen thing on the dash?
I will reserve my opinions until I am able to test drive one at my local dealer.
Whenever that might be.

Agree with 200, IMO, it's about affordability
40k for an impala is nuts!(although it's a sweet looking car), it's basically the same power train that you get in a 2012 for almost half of 40k

I like the front end look of it...the body lines...and the rear lines/look...but would prefer a more original looking tailight.

I'm disappointed in the motor selections....unless they're going to surpise us with a different option for the SS.

I'm also disappointed in the FWD issue.....as practically EVERYONE has mentioned.....it needs to be AWD....or at the very least RWD.....and the BEST option would be RWD w/selectable AWD.

Overall...great looking re-design.

Make the SS versions....blacked out...like they did with the LT1 SS versions....from the 90's.

Or if not blacked out....make them monochromatic with different color choices for the SS.

I'd be willing to bet that you will NOT see that pop up nav/radio or whatever it is.....mainly because it looks to me like it's going to be obstructing quite a bit of your view...and they would probably fear lawsuits in this sue-happy world !

I like the concept...but make it so the top part is slim and isn't part of the dash....and make it tilt more towards the windshield so that it isn't obstructing as much of your view.

Lastly....PLEASE GM....do the SS some justice.....I'm growing weary of SS versions being basically a trim appearance upgrade with a few other tweaks here and there.

These days...an SS should really be a different animal.

Just like when GM did their ZR2 pickups and blazers.....it wasn't just a mild lift...it had an entirely different chassis.....

If an S series pickup/blazer got that much attention and improvement.....for the "ZR2" code package.....I think that the SS should get ALOT more than what's been offered since the 60's...in my opinion.

Thanks !

You can get a new 2012 Charger with a 300 hp v-6 and an 8! speed automatic and rwd that gets 31 mpg for about $24,000 right now. This car seems like no improvement. I can't imagine them not having a basic v-6 version that couldn't be had for $25k after deals. You can get a 2012 Impala LS right now for $22,000, I don't see this new car being anywhere near twice that car.

Gm inside news revealed this morning that there is no intention of making an AWD option for the new impala. They say to differentiate it from the Lacrosse and the ATS. Bull shit. It's a way for them to get people to step up to their luxury brands to get AWD. I feel like that is another failing of gm that will drive away potential customers for dodge or ford to get an AWD car for under 35k.

I agree. I can kinda understand them making it a FWD for the people that see snow and to make the tree huggers happy with the mpg's, but they can achieve the same goal with an AWD version and please everyone(especially those of us who never see snow).

For me it's safe to say that I won't own a 9th gen impala(unless I get it for free). I'll just put that money towards a b-body, and then a few of the 60's models.
