Seriously, let us just have a 10th gen forum page please. 2014-2019 is a separate vehicle altogether. It's stupid that we're saying that they are the same gen as the previous body style.

I own a 2014 Impala 2LTZ.

How did you determine that “we’re saying” that the 2014-2019 models are the same as the previous body style?

This forum counts the newest epsilon-2 based Impala as the 9th generation rather than the 10th, as GM does. The difference is that GM counts the 1958 Impala as a generation unto itself whereas here it's lumped in with the 55-57 models.

For the new body style 2014-2019 Impalas, this - 9th gen - is the correct sub-forum.

At least, I think that's what you were talking about

The 2014-2019 Impala are 10th gen, not 9th gen. The forum should be on the same page as GM, as I constantly see both 9th and 10th gen posts in the 9th gen subforum. 1958 is its own generation, as the following year the body style was completely changed, meaning that would be gen 2. As a forum devoted to the Impala, we should probably have the correct generations listed as subforums.

Because the forum is lumping the 2014-2019 models in with the 2006-2013(9th gen) models. We should have a 10th gen subforum where the only thing that gets posted about is 2014-2019 Impalas.

No, the forum does NOT lump the 2006-2014 Limited and the 2014+ "new style" models together.

On this forum, the 2006-2014 Limited is considered 8th gen and the 2014+ new style Impalas are considered 9th gens. They each have their own dedicated section.

The years for each gen are listed right in the description of each section. Right or wrong, this thread uses a generation map that is 1 lower that the GM generation map. It's been like that forever and it's not going to change. On this froum, 2006-2014 Limited is considered 8th gen and the 2014+ "new style" Impalas are considered 9th gens. It is what it is. There are way too many posts using this generation map to change it now. I believe that when the forum was setup, wikipedia had the generation map as it is here - and then it was later corrected on wikipedia.

But the point is that there *are* different sections for the new style and old style Impalas. Again, look at the section descriptions.

Still pretty sad being called Impala forum and don't even have them labeled correctly.

Yes, you have a w-body, gen8 Impala.

The 3.6 liter LFX carried over from the gen8 to the gen9 Impala. I think the 6T70 transmission did as well. Both have good reputations.

Correct - you have an 8th gen according to the generation map used on this forum. The "Limited" in the name of your 2014 Impala Limited is the "official" way of differentiating it from the new-style 2014 Impala. The "Limited" wording was used by GM in an attemt to help reduce the confusion they created by having two completely different "Impalas" in 2014-2016 (at least I think they go up to 2016 for the Limiteds - can't remember for sure?). :-) But using "W-body" also helps too.

GM also used "Limited" to differentiate the 2016 old and new body styles of Chevy Cruzes. In that case, there was only one year of production overlap.

The interesting thing to me is using the term Limited this way. In my mind, it was a trim option on the Buick Electra 225 back in the day

Agreed - to me, "Limited" means that something is "better" or "special" about a car (such as "Limited Edition") - not that it's just the "old" version of a car. :-) It really is a strange way of using it.
