Headlight Upgrades

Hey guys, just recently purchased a 2015 2LT. It did not come with the HID headlights. Any Ideas for a upgrade that would give brighter output without upgrading to HIDs? Any specific bulbs? Preferably a very white light or even a slightly blue light? They are too yellow for my taste.

I threw in some Diode Dynamics SL1 LED bulbs and they look and perform fantastic. They're much, much brighter than even aftermarket 'Xenon' bulbs I was putting in before I got these. Literally night and day difference in output. https://www.diodedynamics.com/led-bu...headlight.html

The whole assembly tucks into the headlight projector too so you don't have to chop up the dust cap and install grommets; literally plug, tuck and go. They did take about 7 weeks to get to me, but in my opinion was totally worth it.
sheila and jita1 like this.

  • Black Bowties and Impala Emblems
  • Midnight Edition Wheels
  • Black Inlay Front Grille
  • Black Exo-skeleton tail lights, entire assembly wrapped in light smoke
  • 20% tint all around with 5% front brow

If you opt to go with halogen bulbs and looking for budget, I use the Hella 2.0 high performance bulbs. They are bright and have a whiter light, but retains the distance and width of the beam. I've had excellent results with these. I have them in my daily Impala driver and my wife's car as well.

Can you hear the fans running on the LEDs?

I definitely cannot hear them from inside my cabin, but the majority of my interior is also sound deadened so take that with a grain of salt.

While the car is remote-started though, I have not noticed any more sound while walking around the hood to get in. My guess is they are pretty quiet. They are, after all, entirely enclosed within the headlight projector ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Whatever you do, please keep in mind, while "taste" is one thing and of course I wouldn't wish you to be in a car you hate, HID and LED headlights can easily screw with other people's eyes. I've driven probably half a million miles since 2013, and a half-decent chunk of that at night, so I know pretty well. Even if they're in proper reflectors and aimed right, they still aren't as pretty when you need to look almost right at them in the middle of nowhere, just trying to get to wherever you're going.
sheila and kbz1960 like this.

Going to highjack this thread a little bit as I have been looking at upgrading my 9th gen to the Morimoto HID's recently and am a new on headlight stuff.

I noticed there are different part numbers for the halogen vs HID headlight housing, What are the differences? Are the projectors the same?

The simple answer is no. Halogens are typically used in reflector housings while projector use the HIDs.

The reflector housing does exactly what its name implies; it reflects the light from the bulb forward. The projector adds a lens that focuses the beam.

The HID headlights have halos where the halogens don't.

With the new generation Impala (2014-2019) the halogen uses 9012 bulb and the LTZ use the D3S HID. While the LTZ comes with a halo light around the lens, I believe the projector itself is the same.

I'll be installing the Morimoto 9012 kit myself in my car within the next couple weeks.

Thanks guys, I finally found what I needed. I installed Hikari Ultra LEDs in my housings and couldn't be happier. Way brighter. Perfect beam pattern as well. Wouldnt touch diodedynamics as they have horrible reviews on light output.
