More Elecronic Woes...

So a few months back I replaced my wheel hub that was causing my ABS, power steering, and park assist issues. Now I'm getting a "service side detection" message and it was keeping the passenger side blind spot indicator illuminated constantly even with the car off. To keep the battery from draining I pulled the fuse until I can get some time to troubleshoot the issue, with hopes it gets warmer to melt off some of the icy junk that has to be all over the chassis of the car.

About a week later now I'm getting "service stabilitrak" message with my ABS light illuminated also. I'm sure these are related to each other but has anyone had this issue before? They are still talking temps in the single digits this weekend but finally a warm up next week into the 30's. My guess is there is either too much ice build up on the blind spot sensor in the rear bumper but I have a funny feeling one of them has failed as it sounds like it's a pretty common problem.

Oh and my intake pipe is cracked too. Just fantastic.

I've been a GM guy my whole life but they are trying my patience as of late.

had the same problem basically. ABS-Sidedetection-pass signal stayed on constantly, then got a ticking noise in engine, took to GM and they replaced the exhaust camshaft position actuator solenoid valve. Not sure if the pass indicator light is a "warning indicator" of sorts, but it went off when this was fixed. As for the side detection, no clue. From what ive read, its a $1000 fix. havent messed with any of the sensors yet because of the weather, but im assuming i was hit and cant tell or something. IDK..YET, lol..

Wow. Why in the hell would they tie the abs system into the vvt system. Haven't messed with anything yet but if this is the case we might be looking for something else if these electrical gremlins keep popping up and are 500-1000 bucks a pop at a dealer every time. I'd rather trade the thing in and put 1k down on something else.

So far this car has proved to be a beautiful pearl white POS.

Well we're finally thawing out up here and I reinstalled the #62 fuse but no bueno. It got rid of some of the relating messages but I still have "service side detection" and the passenger side indicator remains illuminated constantly. Still have "service stabilitrak" as well but I'm wondering if those are 2 seperate issues.

Haven't had a ton of time to look into it yet but I'm planning to swap the rear sensors and see if it follows. If the passenger side still illuminates then it may be a bad harness. Worse case I'll change out the sensor... or sensors myself and have a local dealer program them... then look into the stabilitrak problem.

Pulled the rear blind spot sensors and the drivers side was swelled up and had water coming out of the connector. Passenger side "looked" ok but that's the side that had the illuminator on constantly. With both of them disconnected and the fuse back in the lights went out, obviously, but all of the other messages went away too other than stabilitrak and side detection.

I plugged them back in and now the drivers side light is dim and flickering while the passenger side is bright and steady illuminated. So I'm betting on 1 or both of the sensors being bad.

Tried to put them back in and this is where the major fun begins. Whoever designed the f*uckng holders molded into the rear bumper decided it was a good idea to NOT keep a solid track for the sensor to follow but instead put a break right in the middle. Perfect placement where the sensor gets 1/3 of the way in and the outermost part of the sensor is rubbing on the inner bumper pushing it off track enough I can't get them back in their slot. It's no wonder techs have to remove the bumper to install these. What a joke. This is pushing me to my limit, never had a car fight me this much.

A simple job that turns into an all day affair is my biggest...BIGGEST pet peeve. Almost ready to send it down the road and I havent even looked into the stabilatrak yet. Once its all back together it's going to the dealer, my time has a dollar figure too and at this point I'm ready to wash my hands of it.

yeah, i hear ya man. Im closeeeee too. $660 To replace my side detection sensor BS, never was hit to cause it, that i know of anyways. I did have my driver mirror hit 3 times and just replaced it finally. but i dont know what sensor is bad, or if its just 1 or not. GM wont check because it will cost me $90 just to pull it into the dang garage. Then, the sensors are on backorder anyways, so cant even get one. I was told by GM that if the sensor isnt changed, it will cause the car to not ever start at some point, or something like that. I kinda want blank after told the cost for a stupid sensor replacement, and god forbid i need more then 1,SMH..

love the car, love the style, but uggg, its just waiting for something else to happen at this point. cant imagine what the cost of the headlights with the halo LED to go bad, probably a cool $500 to change it out. I cant even figure out how to change the passenger sidemirror marker light, car looks stupid remote starting with 1 mirror light illuminated,

Good luck bro, hope everything works out for ya..

I just ordered 2 sensors from a Terrain... according to the online parts websites it shows these sensors all work with Buick veranos, Cadillac XTS/ATS/CTS, Chevy Equinox and GMC terrain. Worse case they don't work but I bought then cheap enough I'll resell them if I have to. Not about to chuck out $200 a pop for a sensor when the next rain storm might fault them out already.

I can also get a take off bumper assy from a salvage yard that has the sensors & harness in them for $350. Either case I need to get the car into the dealer to program the sensors.

The wife and I talked about it and we're going to fix these issues as we like the car and we looked long and hard for a pearl white impala with the grey leather interior... but in the short time we've owned it I've had an encoder ring break on the rear hub taking out a handful of systems in the car and my intake is on order. (Both of those issues i knew were weak links with these cars and fairly easy fixes) Now we have these 2 new issues to work through. I contacted the dealer we bought it from since it was a one owner car bought new at that dealership and evidently there was nothing major on the warranty report... imagine that. I wanted to make sure the previous owners didn't trade it because it was starting to nickel and dime them.

Anything else major and I think it's the end of GM for me. This is the newest car we've owned by far and its already the most issues we've had with a vehicle. There's a class action lawsuit going against GM for the Cruz blind spot modules... maybe they can add the impala to the list too... GM always seems to do certain things right like their engines, but all the subsystems get overlooked or under-engineered.

Thought I'd give a quick update on the fix for my issues. I ended up using 2 low mile blind spot modules out of a 2016 GMC Terrain ($60 total) that so far is keeping the side detection system happy. Plug and play with no reprogramming the sensors, they are however a slightly different design physically(thinner profile) so a spacer is needed to keep them tight in their respective sleeves in the rear bumper.

I got the service stabilitrak code read at my local dealer and it happened to be another speed encoder ring broken on the front wheel this time. Got it replaced last night and all is good again. Might as well order 2 more since its only a matter of time when they fail too.

Anyway, hope this helps someone down the road that might be having the same issues.
