Front noise every time I start car

I've got a 2015 V6 Impala LTZ.

Every time it's started there is a buzzing noise, like an electric motor or pump running. It lasts for maybe 20-30 seconds then goes away and I can then hear the engine running. Engine runs well, does not vibrate.

I park it in the garage or outside in this cold IL weather, same sounds when it starts??

Any one ever have such a noise?

Thanks
Phil

Does it do this every time it is started? Or only when the engine was cold. There are a few threads about noise on start-up from when the engine is cold. Seems like it has been narrowed down to some resonance in the exhaust system...more specifically the flex pipe. Might be worth looking into and searching for the threads.

I have a 2014 Impals 2LTZ - purchased new. I have never heard that noise.

My 1999 Corvette has an electric A.I.R. (Air injector reactor) pump that activates under certain circumstances and runs 15-30 seconds, including cold-start. The electric motor, mounted in the LF fender (at the front), is noisy when it runs. Some time ago, I replaced the motor with a new GM part. Same noise.

Iím not sure if your year Impala has this pump, but I suspect that my be the noise source if it does.

It might be the high pressure fuel pump that you are hearing. It goes away after about 30 seconds.

you could test this by turning the key to run and not rolling the motor over. then see if you hear the noise. if so, can you tell if it is in the engine bay or the back of the car?

Question, does anyone know if the 2015 Model share the same blend door actuators? Those little motors that tend to go bad. For the A/C recirculater. I know thats what it is on my 2013 Ltz I hear it for about 20-30 seconds.

i know one the wifes 2011 cruze you can hear the fuel pump (in tank fuel pump from what i can tell) activate and run for a few seconds with the key out of ignition. i think they do it to keep a prime on the fuel system so it starts quicker.that car makes clicks and runs the fuel pump when the car is off every few minutes it seems.

I had an A.I.R. wiring break that was diagnosed from CHECK ENGINE on my '13 LTZ, so guessing it's common on Chevy engines. Technician said the blower burns off the rich gasoline on cold start and runs less than a minute. After it was fixed, I heard the noise but was directed by the technician.

My car is Flex-Fuel

I found the problem. The noise kind of let up a bit, then I started hearing what I thought was an exhaust leak. I looked and looked. Then I finally found some black soot on the front/left pipe right at the exhaust flange that bolts to the engine.

The pipe was cracked almost completely around. A spot weld was the only thing holding it together. Got that fixed and engine sounds like new again.

Cheers,
Phil

Thanks for the update - I own a 2014 Impala 2LTZ.

A friend of mine that works at a Chevrolet dealerships said this breakage / defect is somewhat common. The replacement of the pipe is covered under the emissions warranty (if still covered).
